Apple Intelligence on Unsupported Devices

I know that iPhones, iPads and Macs before the 15 Pro (Max) or without an M series chip don’t have the hardware capabilities to be able to run Apple Intelligence, but how come Apple Intelligence can’t be used through WiFi over the internet, or synced with a device you own that does have it? Is it so you are “forced” to buy the newest tech from Apple, would it never work, or was it never considered?

This could, of course, be part of Apple’s business strategy for sales.

However, their vision is to operate artificial intelligence directly on the device, allowing them to maintain high security while providing personalized services to users.

Within this policy, it also serves as a foundation for enabling each app service to directly access artificial intelligence.

While using Apple Intelligence through the internet is challenging, with this update, integration with ChatGPT is now possible. Therefore, please consider using third-party apps like ChatGPT as an alternative.

No one if forcing you to buy anything. Your devices, which may not possess the hardware required to run Apple Intelligence do everything they did the day you bought them. You would logically only buy a newer device, if a feature you want would be of value to you. Only you can make that determination.

But to your question about using Apple Intelligence through Wifi over the internet, doesn't make sense. It isn't Wifi which makes Apple Intelligence run. Apple Intelligence is ON-DEVICE. This is different than how just about all other manufacturers have implemented Artificial Intelligence. Apple is ALWAYS concerned about protecting user data and using on-device services for Apple Intelligence, protects a user better than any other implementation. Thus, you can't bypass how to access Apple Intelligence and you must own a device which is capable of running it.

No, it's not about Apple's strategy for promoting sales. It is completely about owning a device which has the hardware capable of supporting Apple Intelligence.

Apple Intelligence is on device processing where your data and privacy is protected, but also requires the extra RAM and processing power. The other approach to Artificial Intelligence is to send requests over the internet to have another computer/server use their processing power. Sending your data to another computer is exactly what Apple is preventing with most of the features you find in Apple Intelligence.

You can still do that with requests to ChatGPT to have their servers do the processing, but your data has left your device and is now in the hands of someone else. That is not Apple Intelligence as you no longer know what those servers are doing with your data. When it is done on your device, Apple can protect your data.
