Difficulty locating old photos after iPad photo update

I have tried & tried to adjust to the photo updates in my Ipad but am in tears because I cannot find my OLD pictures like I could before. I know they are still there....but apple put them in so many buckets that...WTH? No warning...just change our life! What are we do do? Is there any instructions out there? What a terrible way to treat Apple customers. We feel disrespected.
