Apple Music double click not working

I recently transferred 300+ GB of music from iTunes on an older MacBook Pro to a new MBP into the Music feature. This was mostly music I'd copied into iTunes/the hard drive off CD's (very little purchased music). When scrolling through Songs in Music, a double click will work once or twice to play a different song, then no longer does. Tried rebooting the laptop, quitting Music and restarting it.

How do I get a double click to consistently play a new/different song? (I haven't seen an answer here that solves this problem.)
