Touch ID on Magic Keyboard not working

I have been using a MacBook Pro M1 2021 with Touch ID for several years without any issues. I decided to start using an LG external monitor and Logi keyboard with the MacBook in clam shell mode. The only problem is that you obviously can't use the MacBook's Touch ID in clam shell mode. So I bought a Magic Keyboard with Touch ID to replace the Logi. I paired the Magic Keyboard with the MacBook without any issues....except that the Touch ID on the Magic Keyboard does not function at all. All the other keyboard functions on the Magic seem to work, but not the Touch ID, which was the whole point of getting the Magic Keyboard. I am running macOS Sonoma 14.6.1 with the M1 Pro chip, so I should meet the system requirements. Any ideas?

I have the same issue with a Magic Keyboard with a lightening connector. Touch ID just stopped working after I came home from a recent trip. I deleted the fingerprint and tried to add a new one but it just doesn't register the finger at all. Given this isn't a USB-C MK compatibility doesn't seem to be the issue. I've tried powering the keyboard off and on, forgetting and re-adding it, rebooting the Mac, and all of those in various combinations. Nothing.
