Touch ID doesn't work when using DisplayLink

Hello,

I am using the M2 Macbook Air with Sonoma 14.0 (although this problem has been present since I've bought the Macbook Air with Ventura installed).

I use my Macbook with two external monitors attached via the Dell Docking Station (D3100), which uses the DisplayLink technology.

It works great, but the only problem is that when I use this setup, the Touch ID seems to get disabled. So whenever I need to purchase something via ApplyPay for instance, the prompt to touch the fingerprint sensor comes up, but when I press it with my finger, nothing happens. It does not recognise that a finger is being pressed against it.

Touch ID doesn't work on login either, if I turn the macbook on with the docking station attached.

I would appreciate any advice! Thank you.

Hi @Harky167,

I have the same problem too which even Apple Genius Bar couldn't isolate because I didn't know that it was because of the DisplayLink and even a new External Magic Keyboard with Touch ID didn't help.

For me, always resetting the keyboard was helpful (Off and On again) but every time the Macbook locks/sleeps, I have to do it again.

I'm very happy to find this fix which has been working for me for a few days so far!

Basically, run this command in your terminal and then restart

/usr/bin/defaults write ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.security.authorization.plist ignoreArd -bool TRUE

Hope it works for you as well!

Cheers!
