New Mac mini 4 won't boot when connected to Dell U2414H monitors

Hi, I have a new Mac mini M4, 512 GB SSD that will not boot with my dual Dell U2414H monitors. These monitors worked fine on my Mac mini M2. (One monitor is HDMI to HDMI, and the other is HDMI adapter to USB-C). In my troubleshooting so far, I was able to attach a BenQ GW2786TC 27 inch monitor via HDMI connection to the new Mac mini M4, boot up with no issues. Any advice on trouble-shooting would be MUCH appreciated!

Thanks, Steve

Dell – Dell UltraSharp U2414H User's Guide

23.8" monitor with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels and a 60 Hz refresh rate when run at that resolution (see table on page 11). Has DisplayPort, Mini DisplayPort, and HDMI inputs.

Both of your Mac minis have rear-panel USB-C ports with native DisplayPort video output, While a USB-C to HDMI connection should work, a USB-C to DisplayPort connection might involve less signal conversion.

I take it that you are connecting both of the Dell U2414H monitors to the rear of the M4 Mac mini? (The front-panel USB-C ports on your new Mac mini are single-purpose ports that support USB but that do not carry video signals.)

What happens when you try these monitors one at a time? Let's call them Monitor A and Monitor B.

  • If Monitor A is the only monitor, does HDMI-to-HDMI to it work? Does USB-C to HDMI to it work?
  • If Monitor B is the only monitor, does HDMI-to-HDMI to it work? Does USB-C to HDMI to it work?
