Macbook Pro still running when lid is closed

So when I close the lid of my MacBook Pro, 2021, it doesn't seam to go to sleep properly.

I know this because the computer got really hot in my bag one day and it drained like 20% of the battery before I noticed it.

Any ideas on how I might figure out what's causing this?

Try putting the laptop to sleep by using the Apple menu and selecting "Sleep". In fact, before you do that make sure to press the Caps Lock key so its LED lights up. When the laptop enters sleep mode, then the Caps Lock LED will go out.

Plus make sure to first disconnect all external devices including the power adapter before putting the laptop to sleep or powering it off since changing their state can cause the laptop to wake up or power back on. Make sure not to touch any keys or even the Trackpad since that can also trigger the laptop to wake up or power back on. Apple has really made a mess of things here.

Better yet, just power off the laptop again, making sure to keep in mind everything I just mentioned.
