Issue with Relocating Sound Library in Logic Pro X

Hello,

I am experiencing an issue with relocating the Sound Library in Logic Pro X. I moved the library to an external hard drive, and when I want to use it again and go to Logic Pro > Sound Library > Relocate Sound Library, both my external hard drive and Macintosh HD appear, but they are grayed out and cannot be selected.

System Information:

  • macOS Version: 15.1.1 (24B91)
  • External Hard Drive:
    • Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    • Connection Type: [e.g., USB-C, Thunderbolt]

Steps I Have Already Tried:

  • Verified that the external hard drive is correctly formatted and writable.
  • Granted Logic Pro X Full Disk Access in System Settings > Privacy & Security.
  • Ensured there is sufficient space on both the external drive and Macintosh HD.
  • Ran First Aid in Disk Utility on both internal and external drives.
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled Logic Pro X.

Despite these steps, the issue persists.

I need assistance understanding why the volumes are grayed out and how I can move the Sound Library to the correct location.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 15.1

Hi adamskil

Is there already a SoundLibrary of Logis on the external drive installed?

If so, delete it (or rename it, if there is enough space on the disk for safety reasons) and try again.

Every Mac seems to need its "own" library which logic can't share. At least this is what I found out. I had the same problem during the migration to my new M4Mini an hour ago and this is what I did. It works now. Happy 2025 and greetings from Germany.
