A .webloc (macOS website location) file is just a pointer to a URL, i.e. for (usually) a (web)browser to open a certain webpage. It is not a video file, but may point to a video file on some site. E.g. one of: —

https://www.somesite.com/blah/blah/
https://www.somesite.com/blah/blah/my-fancy-video.html
https://www.somesite.com/blah/videos/foo.mp4
https://www.somesite.com/blah/videos/foo.webm
https://www.somesite.com/blah/videos/foo.mov
https://www.somesite.com/blah/videos/foo.mkv

What happens when you double-click this .webloc file? Does it open a video directly with nothing else, or does it open a webpage with that video (also other things on that page)? A big difference! What does the URL look like? Does it end with a filename (e.g. foo.mp4)?

If the URL is pointing directly to a video file, then you can often download it by copying the clean url (from the location field), open the Downloads window or pop-up for your browser, and paster the URL there. Some sites may obfuscate that video location though, to stop users from copying (downloading) that easily.

I want to download my videos to my YouTube Channel.

Which is it? Download FROM your YouTube Channel, or upload TO your YouTube channel?

  • To download from your own YouTube Channel, go to YouTube Studio: Channel content﹥Videos﹥☑ select one or more videos﹥More actions﹥Download …
  • To download from any other YouTube Channel, use external tools, as YouTube themselves discourage that. There are third party websites that let you download from YouTube, and also local tools such as yt-dlp (uses Terminal).
  • To upload to your YouTube Channel, you will need to have an actual local video file, not a .webloc file. Go to your YouTube Studio page, click the Create button at the top-right, then choose Upload video, and select a video file on your computer.
