How can I opt out of the iPadOS 18 update?

Iam currently running ipados 17.7.2 on my ipad air 11 inch m2 and the update for ipados 17.7.3 is already out but in my ipad its only showing the update for iPados 18.2 which i dont want to update as i had pretty bad experience after i updated to ipados 18.1 and my device started heating and eventually had to get a replacement model which came with ipados 17.7.2. I also tried to update it from my laptop via itunes but there it shows that my ipad is up to date and no new updates are available. Now how do i get back to getting the ipados 17 updates. Or is the ipados 18.2 stable for me to update? Cuz i cant find any reviews regarding the performance and battery life despite of it being out for quite some time now.

If your iPad is capable of update to iPadOS 18.x, your only available update path is now to iPadOS 18.2.

With release of iPadOS 18.2, only iPad models with iPadOS 17.x installed that explicitly do not support iPadOS 18 can be updated with iPadOS 17 "point updates".

You don't have to update your iPad if you prefer not to do so - but will not benefit from any essential security updates or new/fixed software features. Be aware that the red available update badge can only be suppressed by installing the available update.

Speaking solely of personal experience with an iPad Pro, I have not encountered any significant issues with iPadOS 18.2.

Right. Thats a nice battery backup. I typically get 9-10 hrs when i use it for lectures and streaming on youtube. But since i started note taking on it in college iam losing 10-12% battery per 1 hour of use on apple notes with the brightness set to 25-35% and it gets a bit warm unlike it got so hot that i had to stop using the ipad to cool it down when i updated my previous ipad (before the replacement model) to ipados 18.1

Depending upon Apps and screen brightness, 8-15% battery utilisation per hour of use is entirely normal. Your indicated usage is well within the realm of reasonable expectation.

Likewise, your iPad can be expected to become warm with normal use. High screen brightness and CPU-intensive tasks will produce more heat - heat being entirely expected of any electronic device. While your iPad can be expected to become warm (or very warm), it should not become uncomfortably hot to handle.
