iPad Pro says 17.7 ipadOS is up to date. Model MWRG3LL/A. How to update?

Funny that during my long conversation with Apple tech the staff knew nothing about problem with 18. I auto-updated to 17.7 on my M4 and lost Bluetooth connectivity, and once again staff couldn’t figure out why.But now reading that my issues are widespread…hmmmmm
Two things (follow ups).
At Apple Store they determined that since mine wouldn’t update to 18, it is getting replaced …no charge since new. Supposedly, they will ensure it fully functions w the 18. We’ll see.
Secondly, the Apple Pencil that worked on Edition 5 won’t work on the M4. So add another $125 for cost to upgrade and use a Pencil. Drats???

Different models of iPad and iPad Pro support different Pencils. The 2024 iPad Pro M4 and iPad Air M2 support the Apple Pencil Pro and the USB-C Pencil - but not the earlier first and second generation Apple Pencil.
