Why is WhatsApp using my camera all the time on iPhone?

I noticed the green dot light up every time I use WhatsApp lately and when I go investigate it’s using my camera and making me feel unsafe.

Green Dot indicator is on most of the times. The green dot to indicate Camera is being used is always on when no applications are running in the background. When checked in control centre it says Whatsapp is using camera, but whatsapp is not open. Tried to turn off Camera access to Whatsapp but still issue persists. Model: iPhone 14 Pro OS: 16.3 Please let us know if this is expected.
