iPhone icon missing on CarPlay after the iOS 18 update

I have a 2022 Range Rover Sport and just recently (i think after the 18.0 update and upgrade to iPhone 16 Pro the phone icon is not shown on the CarPlay screen. It’s also not available/shown in the phone CarPlay settings as an option to customize. I’ve reset everything, the setting on the phone, the car, I’ve forgotten the device… i reset the car system… everything works and can be seen except the phone icon. The only way to make a call is by using the phone itself and then it comes through the system. Any suggestions would be helpful. - Thanks

Also posted this on Reddit and someone was able to help. The answer - i had FaceID required to open the app, I never thought this would restrict CarPlay but apparently it does.

It isn’t enabled by default so this might not apply to you unless you had activated it. On your iPhone if you press and hold on the green phone app you will see options appear, you can disable FaceID from there. But you would’ve had to activate it to start with, it’s off by default.

Yes this worked for me, the green phone icon wasn’t showing on my CarPlay screen but as soon as I disabled FaceID on my iPhone phone app it appeared on CarPlay. Thank you.

Hi. I have same problem with a VW California and iPhone 16 with ios 18.1.1. How do I remove the need for face ID please?

Long press on the icon and you should get a list of options, one is Face ID, make sure to remove the requirement

Hi, many thanks for info. This worked. Long press on PHONE icon, then deselect "Require FACE ID". Now I can see the phone icon on my car CarPlay screen.
