The 18.2 update has totally ruined email. It is making it impossible to know if I am seeing all my essential emails as it is categorizing them in a very confusing way. If I am travelling or at work without access to my desktop -I am definitely going to miss important emails. I hate this feature and cannot find a way to opt out of it.

No. You are not getting it. Updates are fine and needed. but why do they automatically have all these things turned on so that you get a major shock especially if you’ve got something like ADHD or a visual impairment or you suddenly cannot work for weeks because you can’t work with the new system. A lot of these things you can turn off, so why don’t they just leave them off? And let people add them if and when they choose to add them. Apple is actually moving away from helping people with disabilities by these updates.

The very easy solution is to read the update notifications that come with each release, like this one→What’s new in iOS 18 - Apple Support This is linked from the update page in Settings, so you can read it before you update and make a decision. And if you are worried about what is coming next, just turn off automatic updates.

Yes. I see what you are saying.

I have multiple email addresses.

you have to do it for every different inbox.

i was doing it for all mailboxes and it didn’t work. Once I turned off categories for each separate inbox it worked for all my personal account, Gmail account and iCloud inbox

hope this help.

I was frustrated also!!!

Turn off categories

  1. Go to the Mail app  on your iPhone.
  2. In an inbox, tap  at the top of the screen on each different inbox , then choose List View.

If you don't like the categories (I think they're fantastic), turn them off. Tap on the three dots in the top right corner of the Inbox. Select "List View".

I often find that I like things better if I take the time to learn how to use them.
