Can I revert to the Mail App after the iOS 18.2 update
Just updated to 18.2. The Mail App is terrible. I just want it to be how it was, I don’t know, the entire time I’ve been in the iOS ecosystem. You know, like 10+ years.

Newer does not mean better! Just because you change something doesn’t mean you’re improving it. Please send an update so we can choose which way we want mail to show on the app
Amazingly, you have that choice already! It doesn’t require an update! And how to do that has been posted in this thread dozens of times! To save you the trouble of reading:
To remove the icons in the list view:
To turn off Categories:
These 2 steps will return the Mail app to the way it previously worked.

Good point, but purposefully breaking things and then forcing us all to find a way back to normal seems too much like this current administration. :/
Believe it or not, nothing is broken. Features were added that users had requested, so it would work more like Gmail or Outlook. Just because it doesn’t suit you needs that doesn't mean it’s broken.
Fair enough, but read the room here. These are clearly not the users who requested those changes. We're the users who depend on Mail to keep working the way it has. Messing with email is not like revamping a game. For a lot of us, our livelihoods depend on this thing retaining some consistency.
Go to Settings/General/Software Update and turn off Automatic Updates. But note that will not stop updates that fix security vulnerabilities. The updates 18.3 and 18.3.1 collectively fix 30 security issues.
The new update is terrible at “categorizing” emails and the layout is awful. I hope whoever came up with this terrible update to mail gets permanent and agonizing hemorrhoids so they know what this pain in the butt feels like. Terrible….absolutely TERRIBLE change.
Thank God l founds these posts l began to think l was just a whinging old lady when
l tried to open my email after update and hated the way it worked or rather could not work it out (l could but l have other things to do it is called a life) but l tapped the dots and toggled off photos lets see how that goes 🤨

i like the old way of getting mail
how do I revert back ?
Well, you could start by reading the instructions on how to do that, which have been given multiple times in this thread. Just a thought.

these developers don’t get it. no one wants to change the way they do simple tasks.
Actually, its you who doesn't get it. These new features are attractive to many users. The features already exist in gmail, Outlook, and many other mail providers (where they CAN’T be turned off). Just because you don’t like something it doesn't mean the whole world agrees with your preferences.

That is incorrect. I like the new features, though I don't think they go far enough. I was a huge fan of Gmail's Inbox (RIP) and after all these years, Apple is finally adding some of the features I liked about it. Mail still doesn't manage my email as well as Spark, the email app I've been using (and paying for) for a long time. I'm hoping if the developers continue in this direction, by next year, I won't need to subscribe to Spark anymore. That would be great.

Thank God, I got back to the old presentation sometimes new isn’t better
For some users, new IS better. The new features mirror what is already available in gmail and Microsoft mail products. The difference is Apple lets you turn the features off.
I am in OS 18.3.1 on iPhone SE3 and am in list view and the mail is still using categories w colored icons. I absolutely hate it and want a way to return completely to the way it was before w no icons and NO categories. Its absolute madness. And there seems NO way to get back to the simpler old way. Please help us make this happen. Give us directions that can FIX THIS please.
Thank you.

This is a forum bug that first appeared around 5 years ago, was fixed, and has recently returned.
I guess you don’t use gmail, Hotmail, Outlook, AOL, Yahoo or almost every other modern mail client. Apple is just catching up, but at least Apple lets you turn off the new features, unlike most of the others. And, believe it or not, your opinion is not the only one on this or any other subject.
Exactly! I am looking for specific emails that came in today and Apple is tucking them inside other email streams. I do not want conversation threads. I want my individual emails sorted by when they arrived. If I want to organize them differently or apply tags and labels, I do that within Gmail. I just want them to stop trying to fix things. I am perfectly capable of doing it myself. The worst part is that I figured out the settings, got it back to the way I wanted to view it, and they changed it again. Stay out of my email and just shoot the information through stop playing “I need to impress my boss by improving things”. No! No you don’t.
Well, I’m glad I never sent anyone to your training.
Your answer does not solve ANY of the issues that people have posted in this thread, and the threading settings haven’t changed in 10 years.
I posted the actual answer several times in this thread. Here is one of them: Can I revert to the Mail App after the iO… - Apple Community
