Refund for AppleCare+ Agreement Legit or a Scam?

I received an email, appears to be legitimately from the noreply@email.apple claiming that I am owed hundreds of dollars for an overcharge of AppleCare+ from several years ago from an iPhone8. I clicked the link for Apple Support and an Austin, TX number dialed me back. They collected the serial # and Agreement # (which was provided in the email.....I have no records, nor could I find of a phone this old, so couldnt verify this was in fact my old phones serial #). The only info they requested was my billing address. They then sent me a link to add my banking info. With all the fraud issues out there and becoming more and more realistic, I am trying to validate this is real. Has anyone else received this AppleCare+ Refund and safely received the refund?

yes on Apple Care. update: I called into Apple Support and spoke to an AppleCare specialist and confirmed this is legitimate. They said because the amount was over $100, they are sending money into recipients banking account instead of credit card. She explained that Apple had issues with their system a few years back and AppleCare was being charged well after phones were Traded in. All the Case info was there on my Apple account when I logged in, so appeared to be legitimate. She re sent the link, requesting bank account info, so I felt better about providing more info. However, I was still concerned, so Instead of providing any banking info she offered to provide me an Apple gift card, which I accepted since Christmas is right around the corner. $220 gift card received on my Apple account. so this is legit if anyone else receives an email, but proceed with caution anytime providing personal and financial info.

It’s legit. However it’s been ****. They sent mine to and old bank that is no longer around that has been bought out by pnc. Plus i haven’t used the account in over 3 years. I’ve been calling for over a month to get the funds sent to the correct account. They tried to offer me a gift card but the amount is way too high. I have all the Apple products i need. It’s really a hassle Apple would do this.

Truly heinous experience today with this. Received a similar email, waited past the 30 days to see if payment would be received (it was not), called Support today and have been handed off to 7 different people in over 1 hour and 30 minutes. One finally stated their records show they refunded me on 10/31/24, though I never received an email until 11/14/24 (?), and I don't where that money went but it was not to any of my active accounts.

I have never been more disappointed as an Apple customer - which I have been for many years. Also now finding an unbelievable number of "Apple - Internet" charges on my other credit card which I'm going to have to review and potentially dispute.

Again, heinous experience with disappointing results. They have been talking about escalating this for me now for almost TWO HOURS.

My next phone will be anything BUT an iPhone.
