Maximum Capacity is at 98% in less than 2 months on iPhone 16 Pro

I’m very disappointed with the iPhone 16 Pro’s battery performance. After 48 days of moderate use, the maximum charge capacity has dropped to 98%, and I can’t even say there’s any improvement in battery life compared to my old iPhone 14 Pro, which had 84% Maximum Capacity after nearly two years of use. If this trend continues, it will reach 80% capacity in less than 14 months and approximately 310 charge cycles. It’s shameful!

Here are some specific details:

• I charge it using the Apple 35W Dual USB-C Port Power Adapter, either with the original cable that came in the box or with the Apple MagSafe Charger.

• I don’t use Always On Display.

• As shown in the attached images, I use it for about 2 hours per day, under normal temperature and humidity conditions.

• I don’t use it for car navigation, social media, movies, games, or any other intensive apps.

• I use an Apple Clear Case with MagSafe.

So, what can I do to get this “amazing” phone to at least match the performance of my old iPhone 14 Pro?

My 16 is still 100% with the cycle of 144 and using it since early October, maybe the risk of health dropping down is from the over usage of screen time and gaming, i personally don’t play games or watch many movies, and charge from 10-20% to 80-86% regularly with a normal USB-C cable Apple has provided in the box.

And i’m using a base model, which means 60hz display probably eats less battery and it’s something you can adjust in the Pro model to save bit of extra %.

Lucky you. Since Battery Health normally declines at about 1% for every 50 Charge Cycles, your battery should be at about 96-97% at this time.

What this really tells me is that your battery was actually closer to 103-104% when new, although Apple will still display that as 100%.

At some point soon, you will see the Battery Health start to decline normally.

Still.....you are one of the lucky ones. Unfortunately, averages dictate that not all users will be lucky. Most will be close to average. The users who are not lucky are posting here complaining about their battery.

it's maybe because you charge your phone to 100% every time. i turned on optimized charging to 85% or 95%, avoiding charging to full battery to prevent battery capacity affection!!! i get that you're treating your new phone the same as your older phone, but if the battery is such an issue, you should request a replacement phone because technological devices could have their own defects. nothing's perfect

Sorry I’m late to this party.

If you chase after battery health, you’ll just end up on a wild goose chase to no where.

I’ve had iPhone since the 3GS, not every iteration until the 14 pro, I never really had issues. I know that the battery health indicator wasn’t there back then. Back to the 14 pro, the health degraded a lot quicker than the 13 pro I had. Average user, surfing and listening to music, etc. I gave the 13 pro to my son who video streams constantly, and my 14 pro battery health went way below his very quickly. Went to Apple and did all the usual, nothing worked. Only way to get the claimed battery usage time (as this was reducing) was to turn the phone off and not use it at all. Got fed up in the end and sold it, it’s pointless watching health go down a few times a month when there is nothing you can do about it.

Oddly I have the 16 pro and I’m at a cycle count of 255 and still at 100% health. Some batteries clearly degrade quicker, you need to stop focusing on it and either sell it when you can or accept that you’ll have to get the battery replaced at some stage.

I have used mag safe cases, wallets and wireless chargers since the 13 pro.

Your battery health is going to drop and that is inevitable. It is great that it still shows 100% after 255 charge cycles, but don't be surprised when you see a sudden multiple point drop. When using a Charge Limit, the battery health will not update until it has been given the opportunity to charge fully to 100% and on occasion will do that automatically even with the Charge Limit if it is allowed by keeping it on the charger.

The battery in your iPhone 16 is expected to last for 1000 charge cycles before it falls below 80% and will need replaced, so with 255 charge cycles it would not be unusual to see an adjustment that will drop the Battery Health closer to the 95%-96% range.

I agree that it does no good to focus on the Battery Health number and simply enjoy your phone. For a phone before the iPhone 15, you can expect to get 500 charge cycles with newer phones getting 1000, and anything better than that is simply a bonus.

Thanks for the prompt replies! From what I’ve been seeing on forums, a significant number of iPhone 16 Pro owners (especially given that not that many units have been sold yet, with some still awaiting pre-orders) are reporting that battery life seems to fall short compared to the iPhone 14 Pro. I suppose I’ll have to get used to this aspect. Time will tell, and we’ll see how it goes.

Best wishes to all! 😊

Battery life, how long an iPhone lasts on a single charge and is what I see mostly being complained about here, is a different issue from battery health. As has been said already, the iPhone 16 is far too new to have any data on how fast the battery will degrade, though I don't expect it to be significantly different from previous models of iPhone.

As to how long your battery lasts on a charge, there are some tips here:

After doing some additional research, my opinion is that this is not normal for an iPhone 15 battery, which Apple claims will go up to 1,000 cycles before it reaches a Maximum Capacity of 80%.

"Batteries of iPhone 15 models are designed to retain 80 percent of their original capacity at 1000 complete charge cycles under ideal conditions.*"

iPhone battery and performance - Apple Support

That would translate to a 1% decline for every 50 charge cycles. We've been making the mistake of assuming that the old guidelines........a 1% decline for every 25 charge cycles.....applies to the iPhone 15 (and iPhone 16).

The wild card here is that Apple also states......(in the hard to find footnotes).....That these numbers are based on "ideal" conditions, so the easy way to explain that the battery is declining at a rate faster than the claims would be to state that the iPhone must not be operating under "ideal conditions".....whatever they are. I can't find anything that details or defines "ideal conditions".

In my case is very simple (norma usage):

During the period from September 20, 2024, to November 6, 2024, the battery capacity dropped from 100% to 98% over 35 charge cycles. This represents a battery degradation rate of 2% over 35 cycles or 0.057% per cycle.

From November 6, 2024, to January 6, 2025, the capacity decreased from 98% to 96% over 35 cycles, which also equates to a degradation rate of 2% over 35 cycles or 0.057% per cycle. Since the percentages are similar to those in the first period, it follows that the battery degradation rate was linear over the 108 days.

Based on the above report, it can be inferred that an additional 280 charge cycles will be required to lose another 16% of the battery’s maximum charge capacity. This means the iPhone 16 Pro battery will reach 80% capacity after 350 charge cycles (around May 2026).

My 16 Pro's battery is only over provisioned by about 1.6%. A surprisingly small ammount. Usually manufacturers place a 5% over provision in the batteries so that even when you buy a phone that's been sitting on a shelf for six months. It'll still have the full rated capacity This reply is not looking for advice or feedback . I am simply adding information.
