Why do my AirPods Pro automatically switch to Transparency mode?

I wish I had more advice to offer. This may be time to contact Apple support directly for help.

This was happening to me. I would have it in noise cancellation mode, and it kept going back-and-forth to transparency. I turned off “conversation awareness” and that seemed to fix it

Hi Carol. I have been experiencing the same problem. I have a pretty bad propensity for motion sickness, and the in-ear noise cancellation gives me a terrible headache. However, I also don't want to be listening to everything around me while listening to my music. In past I have always used "Off" on my airpods and that has worked great. With the new update, are we forced to pick between transparency and noise cancellation? Even after allowing "Off" in settings, my airpods keep switching to transparency and don't let me switch back.

Please try this:

1. Place both AirPods i your ears.
2. On your iPhone, select Settings > Your AirPods
3. Make sure the default shows Noise Cancellation, not Transparency.
