Why do my AirPods Pro automatically switch to Transparency mode?

my airpod pros have recently started switching automatically to transparency mode, and i cannot turn it off. when i try to do so, i hear three quick beeps and the headphones return to transparency mode/ANC mode. why can’t i turn either mode off? i’ve tried resetting the airpods, forgetting the device, etc. which works for about 5 minutes, but then the transparency mode notification beeps and i can’t turn it off.

I wish I had more advice to offer. This may be time to contact Apple support directly for help.

Hi Carol. I have been experiencing the same problem. I have a pretty bad propensity for motion sickness, and the in-ear noise cancellation gives me a terrible headache. However, I also don't want to be listening to everything around me while listening to my music. In past I have always used "Off" on my airpods and that has worked great. With the new update, are we forced to pick between transparency and noise cancellation? Even after allowing "Off" in settings, my airpods keep switching to transparency and don't let me switch back.

Thank you!
