My settings show to keep text messages forever. Many of my received text messages are missing unless I search for them. I can’t always remember what I need to search for. But when I do, the search will bring up the message. If these messages are still on my phone, why can’t I view them by clicking on the sender in the Messages app?

I'm having with same issues with my iPhone 16 Pro, I even updated to the new version of iOS 18 to make sure it would get fixed but I noticed my texts from my current conversation I had from the last few hours are completely gone. I scroll up and after like 10-15 text, I get to the top and it's like old SMS and Satellite received texts I had from last month. It's driving me crazy because it's only doing it with one contact.

if Ilook at my texts, find a contact I received text from that same day, there are no prior texts even if there have been many over a period of time. whole threads gone
