Missing Messages on iPhone and iPad
Why do some messages vanish? How can I find them?

Hello DebSWOL,
In your iPhone message app check the < Filters in upper left hand corner. There you should see the different areas your message could be in. The Recently Deleted messages will stay there for approximately 30 to 40 days. After that unless you have a backup (Time Capsule or iCloud) they are gone.
On your iPad you can check recently deleted by checking the Edit upper left hand corner.
Also in Settings for both iPhone/iPad you can check Apps > Messages > Message History > check how long you want messages kept.
