Apple Intelligence on iPhone 14 why isn’t it there?

I want the iPhone 14 to have the Apple Intelligence, but it’s just not there. Why won’t Apple put it on iPhone 14? I have to go buy a new iPhone Thanks Apple

Your iPhone 14 lacks the processing power and RAM to run Apple Intelligence. If you want that feature, you'll need an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 16 (Pro or non-Pro).

I use an iPhone 11 for work and an iPhone 16 for personal. The only noticeable difference is the Siri glow. Apple intelligence didn’t change anything at all. There’s arguably less Siri features than there was before the “update”. You’re not missing anything at all from not have Apple intelligence. It literally does nothing to the iPhone.

That's certainly your opinion. I love what Apple Intelligence has brought to me. I love Visual Intelligence. Siri is greatly enhanced with the ChatGPT extension. Image Playground is fun. Genmoji, let's me create my own emoji's and save them for future use. Writing tools have helped me a lot. Is it earthshaking? No. Are the Apple Intelligence features ones which do more than not having them, YES. And Apple Intelligence features aren't yet complete. More features will come as they go through testing.

I deliberately limited my search for a used iPhone to the 14 Pro Max to get the best phone possible, that could not be influenced by Apple “intelligence”. The only thing I regret it not having is the USB-C port for high speed video support.

My iPad Pro is trying to be “intelligent”, but I am holding it to iOS 17.

You can certainly hold your iPad Pro to iOS 17, and miss critical security updates intended to keep you and your data safe, but it isn't the best approach. Are you not aware that Apple Intelligence is OPT-IN only? If you don't want to use Apple Intelligence on any device, simply don't sign in to it. It won't download, it won't be usable. You won't have access to the cleanup tool in photos. You won't get Genmoji or Image Playground. You won't have a more intelligent Siri or extension to ChatGPT, nor be able to use the Writing Tools. That's entirely your choice. But you also won't be as safe on your device.

Do as you want, but sometimes, cutting off your nose to spite your face isn't the best approach.

What happened to their “less is more”? 4GB was more powerful than 8GB from their perspective 😁

You have more to consider than just RAM, there is also the additional GPU core and faster processor speed. Software has always outpaced Hardware ever since the first computer and is going to continue far into the future. Just a little thing called technology.

I deliberately haven’t upgraded my 14 to avoid all that slop for the first time since I bought the second iPhone model out. Annoyingly my iPad got done though - thought I was safe because it’s 3 years old.

I'm not sure why you have avoided updating your iPhone 14? It is simply NOT capable of running Apple Intelligence in ANY WAY. What you are accomplishing by not updating is to leave yourself vulnerable to many exploits the latest updates provide to keep you safe. Your choice of course, but your iPhone 14 will NEVER get Apple Intelligence.

Apple Intelligence requires a minimum of iPhone 15 Pro (and pro max), iPhone 16, or iPhone 16 Pro (and pro max).

That was explained to the original poster in the first response to this thread on October 30th (and on every page since).

You may want to change the sort order of threads so that the sort from oldest to newest. That way, you'll be able to tell if the answer you're thinking of posting has already been given. It will give you more time to answer questions where people haven't already been helped.

I am sorry if you knew this, but on iPhones the RAM is built in the CPU. So there is no way to add more RAM without upgrading the CPU. And the reason for that is speed. The closer the RAM is to CPU the faster (and more efficient) the memory becomes.

Thus what you are asking is exactly what Apple did, they made a new phone with more RAM (and CPU and ...).

All "Apple Intelligence" requests are processed by OpenAI online.

As far as I understand Apple is paying OpenAI something for this service, but in exchange they refer OpenAI new customers to purchase a full subscription.

So I have two options:

  1. Apple wants you to buy a new phone
  2. Open AI commercial service is not cheap and since there are not many people are buying the full subscription, there is no point of bringing a bunch of free users (with older phones)

It could be a combination of two, who knows. It has nothing to do with RAM/CPU/etc. The iPhone 14 Pro is more than capable enough.
