iPhone 16 pro screen doesn’t dim to 1 nit

Hi all , I have noticed that my 16 pro doesn’t seem to dim screen to 1 nit. I have iPhone 14 Pro as well and comparing them 14 pro looks the same if not dimmer than my 16 pro. Anyone noticed or have the same problem ?

iPhone 16 Pro, iOS 18

In settings go to accessibility->display and text size->reduce white point

you can also add it to control center by holding on an empty space, tapping add control and all the way at the bottom is the vision accessibility section with the reduce white point toggle. Not sure if it takes it all the way down to 1 nit but it’s noticeably darker.

Just as a general point of reference for future visitors to this thread. When I turn down Auto Brightness at this path,

iPhone > Settings > Display & Brightness > slide to the far left

iPhone > Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > scroll to bottom > Auto Brightness > switch off, if already off, momentarily switch on then switch off again.

Now you are one nit of brightness.

Don’t do this in bright light as you will not be able to view your screen to reset the settings. You’ve been warned.

"Writing to Apple is a long path forward. Why do you need 1 nit? That’s so dark, you can’t see it unless you’re in a coal mine and lights go out. It’s ridiculously dark".

This was one of the main reasons I went with the Pro. I often use my phone in dark environments and for me this is very important. If I can't set this without lowering the white point, then that's a cause for dissatisfaction for me.

ZKmusic understands the issue too. I don’t know if this should be innovation or what but my S21 and iPhone 16 at the lowest brightness settings are brightning same. 1 nit, you can call it a wise way of manipulation and making someone buy a product and understanding Samsung does the same but they do not mention it. Good luck finding a way, I usually reduce white since “1 nit” is a myth.

You can get to 1 nit, but it’s so dark, you can’t see the interface to adjust the controls. Please follow this path,

iPhone > Settings > Accessibility > Vision > Display & Text Size > Auto-Brightness > off

iPhone > Settings > Accessibility > Vision > Display & Text Size > Reduce White Point > 100% slider

iPhone > Control Center > Screen Brightness > reduce brightness to minimum.

If that’s not 1 nit I can’t imagine a dimmer screen and still being legible. I have a light meter that reads in Lux. I’d be happy to take a measurement.
