website pictogram in address bar missing in Safari

Since yesterday, after updating from macOS Sonoma to Sequoia I am having an issue with Safari: sometimes (more often than not) the website pictogram left of the url is missing. This is very inconvenient because that is also a handle with which you drag the url to your favorites in de sidebar. It should just be there. Please see attached pictures. The second one (private window) shows how it should look. That it is a private window is arbitrary, it was for now (for this post) the only way to get the pictogram in the address bar, but the issue occurs also in private mode. I am using a 2022 M1 iMac.
