Starting FaceTime Call with Siri creates FaceTime link instead

When I say Hey siri, start a FaceTime call with <x> , it use to initiate the FaceTime call. After upgrading to IPhone 16 it’s creating a FaceTime link and popping up a message with the option for me to send. Why is this happening / how can I fix it?

important notes:

  • seems to only happen with my child’s phone whom I gave my old phone to.
  • I now have an eSIM and so does he.

i was having other issues with Siri, also I had to yell for it to pick up “Hey Siri”. I turned Siri off, turned it back on and went through the voice syncing steps again, rebooted the phone and everything was back to normal. 🤷🏻‍♂️

So weird , I had the same thing happening the last few days , super annoying . I came today looking to see if anyone else had this issue and found this post , however in trying it today , I am able to get it to work all the ways I’m used to either asking for FaceTime to my contact or what I like to do a lot which is tell it to do FaceTime audio on speaker when I’m unable to use my hands …. Oddly enough today it’s functioning “correctly” again , no longer sending an invite link . I tried all my regular ways when it was sending the same invites you are getting until I checked today. I have not done any updates so here’s hoping it’s a glitch on apple’s side . I may have rebooted at most . I hope your Siri starts working again ! Anyone else having this issue or know what’s causing it ?
