iMessage problem since upgrading to iOS 18

There has been a problem with iMessage since upgrading my iPhone 15 Pro and iPad Pro (4th generation with WiFi only) to iOS/OS 18


When both devices are switched ON Text Message Forwarding works seemlessly.


If iPad is switched OFF, it then fails to collect any messages sent or received by iPhone when it is turned ON again. This has never happened before with previous operating systems.


I have tried turning iMessage OFF, re booting and turning iMessage back ON again on both devices.


I have also tried both telephone number or Email address to “Start new conversations from” in various combinations on both iPhone and iPad. In each case there is no issue when both are turned ON, and in each case iPad fails to receive messages sent and recieved by iPhone when switched ON after a period of being powered OFF.


As this is something new since upgrading to iOS/OS18 can only assume it is a bug, and hope that Apple technical experts will fix it.

i-message not working after update to iOS 8.1.1 is a big deal. As a consequence I cannot sign on to certain government services which are verified via sms. Unfortunately this seems to be the ‘new normal’. Launch it and fix it later…maybe. Pretty amateurish for one of the world’s richest companies. I’m seriously thinking about switching to android although I don’t suppose it would be much better. Please sort your **** out apple

The only way to deal with this problem at the moment is to manually sync Messages with iCloud on both (devices iPhone and iPad in my case)


Apple need to fix this so that Messages sync automatically upon startup and ensure that messages are sent to iCloud to be synced!


Hoping a fix will be included in an update to iOS/OS18.1 really soon.

I felt this same way for the first time in along time using Apple products. Updates are just crap now on apps and iOS. I have lost some basic functions after updating my Taco Bell app and going to iOS 18.1

I have never been fond of Apples anti repair stance. They go way out of their way to prevent the simplest fixes like new batteries, screens and such.

Ready to try some other manufacturer ……

This is what my iPhone 15Pro ios18.1 did - both iMessage and FaceTime 'magically' signed themselves into the appleid I use for subscriptions/purchases - this is linked to my phone number but not the main iCloud email etc etc - so some messages arrived but some didn't - they all arrived my Mac which was signed int the main iCloud a/c. - check which account your imessage on iphone is actually logged into logged into
