Unable to change the color of the text while editing photos after iOS 18 update

I had a work around but that’s not working now either. I could enter the text, tap the text then select all, then scroll over to format which brought up a box to change the color, etc. Now, it still brings up the format box but it’s overlaid with the keyboard. Really getting on my last nerve.

The font works there but if you go to the format function, you can +- the font size and it never changes. If you select a color then exit back to the text, the color doesn’t change.

In markup, after adding text, I select a color and when I exit the box. It just disappears and doesn’t change the color.

I have managed to get 3 photos to work correctly while playing around with the steps but only worked those 3 steps that I didn’t document.

I’m an old dinosaur programmer from IBM days, so I understand bugs and empathize a little bit but, they need to get it fixed. Thank God, I only had to deal with 3,000 users.

I’ve always rather trusted Apple to administer upgrades that are genuine improvements, having bought my first Apple Mac SE in 1989.

IOS 18.1.1 has been a backward step that cannot easily be reversed it seems.

I will be preventing all of the iPhones in my immediate network from ‘upgrading’ to IOS18 until Apple patch this, and other less concerning problems with this latest ‘update’.

Come on Apple, help us out with this. I suspect the problem lies with rushing “Apple Intelligence” to market before it was ready?

This problem has been around for a few weeks now, and if you (Apple) don’t address this PDQ, I will very reluctantly move back to Androids.

I was sometimes able to change the text color by going back in and using the format option, but only using the pre-defined colors. Could never do it with a new color generated from the the image, even though I had added it to the color array of selections. Being able to change the text color was inconsistent. Another anomaly. If you can do it sometimes, why not all the time!

Thanks Ewe_Lina for posting this tip! What a rigamarole, but it works! One would think Apple developers could have at least posted this alternative until a fix had been made, but I guess they have their hands full...lol

I can add text to my photos, but I can’t change the color. When I touch the color wheel it opens up for less than a second and then closes the text editor. This used to be so easy. iPhone and iPad are affected. The way the features worked a year ago was fine, then you ruined it

Same issue here on a 15 pro max. Worked fine until tonight’s update to 18.1.

Same happening to me on my new 16 Pro, and checking on reddit, many people having the same problem.

I think Apple should quickly look into this. It is a shame that they have bugs like this on a $1000 plus phone…

Do the programmers at Apple think users enjoy ferreting out issues when they do a system upgrade?

Just updated to iOS on iPhone 12 ProMax.

First problem, I went into ‘all photos’ seeking an album to search for a particular picture. No longer available. FINALLY found my albums through Photo App. Did I enjoy spending time learning how to ‘rethread the needle?’

Then the NEXT surprise. Cannot insert text into important pictures and change the COLOR of the text. Same situation as previously described. When you FINALLY find the text editing box and touch it, it IMMEDIATELY closes with no changes allowed.

My issue is similar, but I don’t put text on my photos. Edits I make to the photo aren’t saved. For example, if I change the exposure for a photo that leans on the darker side, when I hit “done” it reverts back to the original appearance and darkness. You can I actually see it happening. (Even though it shows my changes in the controls themselves.) Needless to say, that means I edit in a different app.

Somehow, I managed to change text color on two new photos today. It wasn’t as easy as before and can’t remember all that I did but the process failed on the remaining photos. This is really screwed up.

Same here. The Font/Colour/Etc. Submenu is totally unresponsive. Very irritating to be limited to what some “software person” (can’t call it an engineer) decided to force the users to use. COME ON APPLE 🍎 FIX IT NOW!

No ability to change the color or font, only the size, and only on the first attempt. Any further attempts produce the appearing/disappearing edit box. This is beyond frustrating! Do they even test these things before shoving it on us!? I have a 13 Pro Max and was considering an upgrade, but now I am thinking Samsung.

This is exactly what happens when I try to do any editing on a photo! Extremely frustrating! It started happening when I did the last 17 update. I assumed when I updated to 18 it would resolve the issue. NOPE! Now the 18.1 is ready to update and I don’t see where the bug is going to be resolved. I’m absolutely not going to update! 🥴
