Unable to change the color of the text while editing photos after iOS 18 update

Sooooo ….. I sent a screen recording to Apple Support after telling them my/our issue!! Welp, they know about it, && the techs are working on fixing it!! So basically we gotta wait til they fix it 🤦🏽‍♀️

This iPhoto text editing fiasco has been going on for 3 or 4 months.

One of my iPhones succumbed to the problem which is irreversible unless you spend a disproportionate amount of time fiddling about, the workarounds were time costly too.

I’ve disabled updates on my main iPhone so I can continue using it efficiently on IOS 17.2.2, and have begun the process of migrating my workflow back to android.

Dismal performance Apple, not that you’d notice if I withdrew my long standing loyalty to your platform.

Apple, (I know you’re not receiving these many messages of protest in your ivory tower of hubris) you need to get your “Apple Intelligence” properly sorted and tested, BEFORE rolling it out prematurely simply because you are SO far behind where it comes to artificial intelligence.

However, and it’s a big HOWEVER .. IOS 18.2.1 appears to have solved the photo/text editing feature.

Can anyone tell me what other problems users might be experiencing with this unfortunate IOS 18.*.* “update”?

I have an iPhone 11 still running 17.6.1: works great. My iPhone 12 running 18.0.1 has the problem as well as my iPhone 14 running 18.1.

I updated to 18.3 and it’s working as expected for now. May change later, who knows.

Yes!!! After I updated to 18, (15 Pro max)when I try to add text to a photo, I can’t change the font, color or anything. It’s just multiple other issues as well when I try to edit a photo! It’s SOOOO frustrating! It was happening when I updated to 17 as well. I’ve reached out to support multiple times and nothing… I really hope they fix this ASAP!!

The font works there but if you go to the format function, you can +- the font size and it never changes. If you select a color then exit back to the text, the color doesn’t change.

In markup, after adding text, I select a color and when I exit the box. It just disappears and doesn’t change the color.

I have managed to get 3 photos to work correctly while playing around with the steps but only worked those 3 steps that I didn’t document.

I’m an old dinosaur programmer from IBM days, so I understand bugs and empathize a little bit but, they need to get it fixed. Thank God, I only had to deal with 3,000 users.

So, this morning I added text to 2 photos. The first one was fast using the mark up option, letting me choose color and text size. The second one required markup to add text and color but needed the Format option to change text size. If you use the Format option, use select all before selecting Format. Color option still not working in Format. Hope this helps. If anything, it’s lots of finagling to get it done. I’m retired so have all the time in the world. Feel bad for those working.

Same problem for me. Can’t change the color of text or of any shapes when editing photos. The first time I try to change it the color sliders appear and then immediately disappear. If I try again, a portion of the editing window pops up in the top left corner of the screen and then immediately disappears.

iPhone 15 pro max on iOS 18.1.

This is still an issue for me, even after updating to 18.2. Not only can I not change the colour or size of text, it now defaults away from freeform cropping to fixed ratio cropping and I have to deliberately select freeform. So frustrating!

Have you upgraded to 18.1? The font size is located in the same box that pops up for adding text color/size/type/position when utilizing the Markup tool.

Yes, I can change font, boldness but not color. Despite it populating.

Since I updated to 18.2.1, the box to change font and font color, will close before changes can be made.

It seems that the issue with photo editing is quite common. I recently updated my iPhone 12 Pro to iOS 18.0.1, but unfortunately, the problem still persists. As someone who relies on this photo editing feature almost daily for work in construction, it has been very frustrating. I have also purchased the new iPhone 16 Pro, which is currently awaiting use once I finish my current project, but I am concerned that this issue may exist on the new device as well.

“Apple”, could you please advise on any potential solutions or updates that may address this problem? Your assistance in resolving this matter as soon as possible would be greatly appreciated.

Like you, not only can’t I change the text colour like I used to, but when I click on “Done” my text is no longer cantered… it’s off kilter🤪 If I try to go back in to correct it, it looks exactly as I want it to until it click on “Done” again🤷‍♀️ Used to LOVE modifying my pictures before updating my iPhone ☹️
