iPhone 16 Pro not turning on

My wife’s iPhone 16 Pro is not turning on. Several times I have had to push the top volume, bottom volume and then hold the right power button until the Apple came on. And it took much longer than 10 seconds and instead of it coming on by itself, the Apple would show only after I held and released the power button. Did she get a lemon or are others having this problem? She gets a new phone every year so this is not an operator error.

Hi. I had the same experience today. Was very Hassled as the iPhone 16 pro 1 TB is a usd 2000 phone.

Went to the Apple store and the technician fixed it in 30 seconds. Seems the iPhone 16 has a different hard reboot process.

Sharing the same below for all

Hard reboot is first press the volume up button on the left side once only, then press the volume down button below it once only and then keep holding the power button till the apple logo shows up.

Best wishes to all and hope you never have to use it but if you do keep this thread.

Hi,

I searched on my mac for the issue i had this morning; I'm glad to see that many others are experiencing this. I had shut down my iphone 16 multiple times prior to this, but this morning, I have been unable to turn my phone on. I am planning on going to verizon today to ask about my bill changes, so I might just ask for an older phone. Has anyone's problem resolved?

After I spent over four hours, trying the forced reboot process, the iPhone 16+ finally turned on. I am afraid to turn it off. I charge it with the standard plug. I read that Apple suggested lowering the charge percentage, so I changed it to an 85% limit. However after a few days, it charged to 100% so I went online to Apple support after I had rechecked my settings. After a while, they replied that the iPhone 16’s every so often ignore your lower setting for some kind of a battery life purpose. I advised them that defeats the whole point of their recommendation to lower the battery percentage in order to prevent the inability to turn on after being shut down. I did do an update to iOS 18.1 on both phones And I held my breath, but they rebooted OK. So where we stand is no real explanation and no real solution. It is just a matter of time. I expect the phones to not be able to boot up. I’ve been using iPhones since model 11 and I have never experienced a failure before.

As the one who started this thread, I am not having this issue like my wife is having, but I also do not turn my phone off at night, and just do a force restart every couple of weeks with no issue. I keep my phone charged to 100%, and either use an official Apple fast charger with an Apple USB-C cable or with an Apple USB-C cable plugged into my M1 iMac.

My question to you, and anyone else who says they are not having this issue is DO YOU TURN YOUR PHONE OFF AT NIGHT AND LET IT CHARGE?

Evelin78- I’m not an engineer or knowledgeable on electrical power, but I’m not buying that explanation. Sounds to me that whoever told you that doesn’t know. It goes against everything either posted here or what Apple says about not being charged to 100%. The issue would happen when the phone was cut off at night and charged. When after doing anywhere from 1 to close to 50 force restarts, and the phone turned on, it was always charged to 100%. At this point without going thru setting changes, battery charging changes etc, the best and easiest solution is to not turn you phone off at night until Apple admits there is an issue and comes up with a real fix. Additionally, we use official Apple 20w power supplies. Your Apple genius may have just been lucky as before going to the Apple Store, the problem disappeared for a week or so and then reappeared.

I have a brand new iPhone 16 Pro and am having the same problem as everyone. I am currently stuck on the 'hello' screen and the phone is quite hot. This is most disappointing for a phone that costs close to $2000. I have never had problems with any of my iPhones in the past. Hopefully this issue will be addressed. As it stands right now, I have a phone that I can't use. Frustrating to say the least.

I have used the Apple site to contact to report problems, but it says that they will not reply unless they have a specific reason to contact you. Additionally, I saw an article on MacWorld about an issue with iMac M1 screen issues that they called a time bomb waiting to happen. As an owner of an iMac M1, I contacted the editor on 11/26 commenting that I have not had this issue yet ( hopefully I won't since the warranty is long gone ) but since he wrote an article about a problem, that maybe he should look into this iPhone 16 start up issue. I sent a link to this discussion, but to date, I did not receive a reply from the MacWorld editor or have I seen anything on the MacWorld site about our startup issue.
