iPhone 16 Pro not turning on

My wife’s iPhone 16 Pro is not turning on. Several times I have had to push the top volume, bottom volume and then hold the right power button until the Apple came on. And it took much longer than 10 seconds and instead of it coming on by itself, the Apple would show only after I held and released the power button. Did she get a lemon or are others having this problem? She gets a new phone every year so this is not an operator error.

Hi. I had the same experience today. Was very Hassled as the iPhone 16 pro 1 TB is a usd 2000 phone.

Went to the Apple store and the technician fixed it in 30 seconds. Seems the iPhone 16 has a different hard reboot process.

Sharing the same below for all

Hard reboot is first press the volume up button on the left side once only, then press the volume down button below it once only and then keep holding the power button till the apple logo shows up.

Best wishes to all and hope you never have to use it but if you do keep this thread.

I had this exact problem. When I charge I NEVER turn it off. It is left on 24 hours a day.

And exactly what you should do. iOS devices are designed to be charged with power on, because the charge management system is software driven. And also because you can enable automatic nightly backup, Optimized Charging, and, not as obvious: When the phone is plugged in the background processes that always exist are powered from the charging source. If you charge with it powered off that means that virtually all of the functions of the iPhone are powered by the battery when you turn it back on, and none of those functions will be able to use line power, so charging with power off will shorten the useful life of your battery.

I have a IPhone 16 Pro purchased three months ago and yesterday my phone shut off on it’s own and I was not able to restart it using the recommended push the up volume, down volume and hold the start button. I tried for over an hour. I tried plugging it in to a charger and it still would not come back on.

This morning I tried the recommended steps and it finally came back on. This only happened after I did the newest update.

I also have been using an IPhone for the past 15 years and have never had this problem before.

This has been happening with my iPhone 16 Pro Max for about a month now, once or twice every week or so. I have called Apple support and they tested the phone to no avail and no answers. I was told I could get a Express Replacement since my iPhone was still under warranty, but I would have to still pay for said replacement at a reduced rate. Uh, no!

From all the people here with the same issue, this is another big problem that Apple is ignoring. How many people with this same issue does it take for Apple to address this, if at all?! It's been suggested that we leave the phone powered up overnight while charging. That might fix the issue by putting a band aid on it and it would probably work, but you should be able to turn off your phone/computer when you need to without the nagging doubt that it won't power up again the next morning after charging and having to do a Forced Restart and pray that it will work!

And how many times will this issue pop up and be cured with a Force Restart, will work, before the phone completely bricks, especially when said phone's warranty has expired and now you have a very expensive paperweight?

Ah, for myself, the solution is to nurse this iPhone until the iPhone 17 Line drops this coming September and take another chance on a new device once again. Apple is really no help and the Limited Warranty is really Limited. I would suggest that even the extended warranty plan is full of holes and really not worth the expense it costs too, once you read all the fine print.

I am really old it seems and today even moving to another platform does not guarantee you will be problem free any more. Quality Control and Reliability are things of the past now. Ugh!

I just had this same problem with my iPhone 16 pro. This is now the 2nd time I have had this problem with this phone. I have not installed update 18.3.1 yet, but it took me several tries of the volume up, volume down, and holding the power button for it to finally turn on. It also took longer than 10 seconds to hold down the power button. My phone was plugged in all night and was at 100%. I used to power my phone off every night, but now I am scared to do so...

There is absolutely no technical reason to turn your iPhone off at night, and doing so will result in expedited battery degradation. When you leave it on and plugged in, the overnight processes on the phone will be powered the external charger rather than the battery, thus reducing the number of charge cycles required to maintain the battery.

The absolute best way to get maximum use on a charge, as well as slow the decline of battery capacity long term is to enable Optimized Battery Charging (Settings/Battery/Battery Health) and charge the device overnight, every night. The battery will fast charge to 80%, then pause. During the nighttime pause the phone will use mains power instead of battery power, allowing the battery to “rest”, and thus reducing the need to charge the battery quite as often. The phone will resume charging to reach 100% when you are ready to use your phone; it will “learn” your usage pattern. If you enable iCloud Backup (Settings/[your name]/iCloud - iCloud Backup) the phone will back up overnight also, assuring that you can never lose more than the current day’s updates. How are you turning it on? Holding the SIDE button for 15-30 seconds, as designed?

Why are you turning it off overnight? If it is just to charge it, that practice will actually reduce the useful life of the battery over time.

I too am responding here in the hope that this fault gets the attention it deserves. My 16 plus is less than a month old. I had problems with the hands free speaker not working properly on calls within the first few days. When that was resolved I breathed a sigh of relief only to find this morning I couldn't turn my phone on at all. I came to this thread first and was shocked to discover how many others are encountering the same issue. I've done the whole volume up down thing and it's worked eventually but it's not acceptable. Come on Apple - sort it out please........

Just got a brand new iPhone 16 pro max out the box, won’t turn on at all. Completely bricked.

I bought a pair of AirPod pro max back in the fall and the audio quality is awful on all my Apple devices (Apple TV, iPad), but my half price Bose QC sound great. Got an iPad last fall as well and I periodically get the screen locking up and not responding to touch.

Apple quality has significantly gone down. Now their products are just overpriced but you don’t even get the same Apple quality and support. I’m only buying Apple from now on on a truly need basis.
