iPhone 16 Pro not turning on

My mother’s iPhone 16 pro max went black screen. We tried doing the force restart more than 5 times and nothing. On the final try we did the force restart and held the power button for a while and it turned on and had 65% battery. Incredibly disappointing that this happens considering it’s a new phone and they’re expensive!!

There are 26 pages in this thread. There have been different solutions that have worked for different people. Set the sort order for the thread (upper left under the original post) to "Oldest" and then review what people have suggested and what has worked and try out the suggestions.

I tried repeatedly for a few hours to get it to turn on. Eventually pressing the up and down and on it worked - must have tried 50+ times!

The hard reset and it may take several times over and over to power on until Apple fixes it!

Do a forced restart and read the rest of this thread.

I had to go thru iTunes and it finally started back up.

Forget all those push-side button routines and connect to iTunes. I faced the same problem, and as soon as I clicked on iTunes, I just clicked it, and it went on 123. Worth a try.

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. I did the up/down button and restart and it finally worked and I will not leave it on charged all night!!!

I got mine fixed by using the technique that Apple support told me to do since I took it to my local store, and to be safe I put charging at 90% and use a usbc charger instead of my MagSafe. If you want you can try this

Same here. 16 pro max wire charged overnight. Dead as can be. Nothing worked to resuscitate the phone. Made an appoint with the Genius Bar as a final resort.

I also have the iPhone 16. Samen thing happened twice, but I managed to get resuscitatie it through the DFU-procedure.

I have bought several iPhones throughout the years, but this never happened to me before.

Just had to do a forced restart on my iPhone 16 pro max, it was on charge via cable and when I went to turn it on it wouldn’t (so I panicked first of all as I’ve got an important phone call due this morning) then I remembered about the forced restart button trick but is this a problem with my phone or a problem with the IOS which is the latest update to date version, I forgot to say I had this happen once before with a brand new iPhone (not sure which one though) and after that happened once it didn’t happen again

I took my phone to the Apple Store and the best they could save was delete and reinstall the operating system. That is to say erase your phone completely and reinstall the operating system like you have a new phone. I haven’t gotten around to that because it’s such a labor-intensive pain in the butt. I did Apple help via chat. They had nothing. Has happened three times and on the third time I went into the Apple Store and essentially they had nothing.

Happened to me too just this morning. Very frustrating. Tried the quick volume up then volume down then side button holds and it worked after an hour. I had also put my phone on charge even though my battery was above 50% before this all happened…

Just happened to my daughter's phone this morning, so maybe it's just a matter of time for all the 16's. She used the charger the phone came with and her phone is updated to 18.0.1. Took about 30 minutes to force start it.

This is the worst “upgrade” I’ve ever experienced! Every 2 years I upgrade and I’ve never had issues like I’m having now. This is a brand new phone and it’s acting like an old one, this is unacceptable and Apple should be ashamed for putting out a product with this many issues. First I had issues setting it up with iCloud so I did side by side and that worked. Now this power up issue has revealed itself. I wasn’t charging my phone when it happened, it just shut off with the phone screen going instantly black. It wasn’t dead. I’ve tried resetting it and it isn’t turning on. I tried charging it using MagSafe and usb c, nothing happens. Paid over $1000 for a POS phone. Thinking about switching to Samsung.
