Iphone XR, 18.0 - I keep it updated, Keep Messages is set on forever.
Almost every time I check recently deleted messages, I find many messages (sometimes 17 or so from one person) with varying days until deletion.
Messages are saved to iCloud, where I have 41G unused.
Any advice? Thank you.

I see that. Thanks, seems like a good thing - and not related to this issue. I’ve seen as many as 50 with one friend marked “delete in 1 day”.

I forgot to include that in Messages, under Recently Deleted, I will:
1. select the message/s I want to recover, and
2. tap Recover All.
However, the app will not necessarily recover those messages.

Yes, it is enabled. Since you posted, I have tried:
There has been no change.
No delete after use is not on
I noticed that Verification codes were disappearing and found that under IOS 18 that is managed in a different setting. You may want to check under General - Auto-Fill & Passwords and confirm if “Delete After Use” is enabled.
Djrtx - no one is gonna understand the issue until it happens to them. I know all my settings on 3 Apple devices. The kicker is the deleted are marked 1 day - not 30 days like when I delete.
I don’t use iCloud except for essentials. Storage usage is 3.5 of 5g - mostly forever Messsges.
Just did 18.1.1 upgrade so that may be an issue.
