Camera won't take pictures on iPhone 16 Pro Max with iOS 18.0 without a daily reboot

I have found that when I try to take pictures with my iPhone 16 Pro Max it won't take pictures and the Camera app crashes (i.e. I am returned to the Home screen). I can do everything else, but the moment I press the shutter the app closes. It then functions fine after a power-cycle.

Has anyone else experienced the same problem?

For the moment I have set a reminder to power-cycle the device every morning, but I didn't need to on my old 11 Pro Max.

Thanks to everybody who replied. I've found that the problem can be alleviated by power-cycling the phone each morning. I've opened a case with Apple Support. I'll post the outcome here.

@lobsterghost1, I wasn't expecting Apple to respond on this forum, I've opened a separate Apple Support case. This was just to gauge if I was alone in having this problem. And to share anything I found out in case it helps others. I've sent Apple a video and it has been escalated and I have an appointment at a local Apple Store. Cheers.

P.S. I did check the forums when I first noted the issue the day after I got my new iPhone and didn't find anything at the time.

SAME. I should have upgraded my phone to a Samsung. Unbelievable, I had numerous times in the last two days that I had to take pictures for work. Extremely upset that I have to inform others that I couldn’t take a photo, bc I upgraded my phone (that makes no sense). I’m returning this 16 and switching to a new device.

Perhaps you should try a force reset ⇢

Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

If a force reset is without success, I recommend you take your iPhone to your nearest Apple Store or Authorized Service Provider to have it taken a look at.

Asking Apple to do anything here won't get you anything. This is a user to user only forum, which Apple doesn't participate.

I'm having zero issues using the cameras on my iPhone 16 Pro Max.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max is a nice phone (it's my 4th iPhone - previous being the 3, 7, and 11 Pro Max). I suspect it is a iOS 18 issue. There seems to been a fair few changes for AI in that OS release, so hopefully glitches (like this one) will get ironed out sooner rather than later.

Im having the exact same issue. I also have crashes when I try to zoom in (both with the new button or the normal way on screen).
