Siri not responding on iPhone 16 Pro Max

As title says, Siri is not working. It only works if I press the side button, not by me saying "hey siri" etc.

I have turned siri off and back on again and done the 5 phrases to set it up and still nothing. I have changed the language, changed the voice, changed to prefer spoken response' and still nothing.

Obviously on IOS18.

Has anyone else had this issue because it is driving me mad. £1,400 for a phone and it doesn't work properly!

I tried the first three solutions from this article on how to fix Siri not responding on iPhone 16 and 16 Pro Series. However, when I reached the fourth step, I realized that Siri and dictation were disabled in my content privacy restrictions, I enabled it but still that haven't solved the issue, I went ahead to Settings > Siri > talk to Siri and there swtich to "hey siri" from “Siri” or “Hey Siri”, to which a Enable Siri popup appear, i enabled it and now its working absolutely fine.

Same problem on 16 Pro. I’ve worked with Apple support, tried everything they suggested and everything here. It works intermittently, and then after a few hours stops working. This suggested me a conflict with other software that I might use during the day. Then when I reboot, I clear the problem and it will occur when I load the other software again. Just a thought.

But here’s the latest an annoyance. When it’s working, I can hear Siri through my headphones or through, the ear part of the phone (the part you would use if you held it up to your ear). But she no longer talks to me on speaker. Other software works just fine on the speaker, for example, YouTube. I’ve tried turning off Bluetooth and even disconnecting my headphones. That didn’t work. Any suggestions?

Obviously, I'm not the only one with the VERY SAME ANNOYING SIRI PROBLEM!!! Sometimes, I regret that I bought the new iPhone 16 PRO MAX. It should work immaculately for the shy £1600!!! Don't get me wrong, I'm an Apple supporter( investor as I like joking) I spent an obscene amount of money on Apple products over the years. This is the first time I feel I was played by the company! It's that bad!!!

I have tried all that’s been mentioned in this group, what has disappeared is Siri doing your typing for you or if you have an email and you want Siri to read it that has also stopped and nothing that has been mentioned so far fixes this issue, what’s been mentioned to me by Apple is supposedly this new up-and-coming AI might be the cause of this happening

Possible fix...

I had this issue with my iPhone 16 Pro Max also. I tried going through all of the published ways to fix it, to no avail. When I did the voice retraining of Siri, it responded, but when finished, it would not respond to the voice wake-up command (the button press worked fine). However, I was able to finally get the voice wake-up to work.

Under Settings | Accessibility | Siri - I turned ON the "Always listen for "Siri"" option (enable face down activation) and it started responding to the wake-up command. When I turned the option back OFF, it still responded to the wake-up command and has been working since.

I can't say that this will work for others, but it did for me. I also can't vouch for the longevity of this fix as I only discovered it less than an hour ago. Hopefully, it will last.

Might be worth a try for others.

Everyone needs to make sure Siri is turned on.

Go to settings - Siri - Talk to Siri

I had no issues talking to Siri before I upgraded my 13 Pro Max to the 16 Pro Max. I don’t know why when I went to the settings for Siri, I did not know it was turned off until I clicked on “Talk to Siri”. The checkmark was on off. When I clicked on “Siri or Hey Siri” we just essentially turned it on. It’s been 3 to 4 days with no problems with it. So I would suggest everybody go check their settings.
