What should I do if my Calculator won't reset after iOS 18 update?

After the iOS 18 update my calculator will not stay at zero. While in my pocket a bunch of random numbers got entered in. Now when I zero out or delete the history close the app it opens right back up to the same long strand of numbers.

Here’s a temporary fix I guess but it works for me:: On calculator open whatever yours says clear with the AC, then hit the decimal between 0 and = then close calculator. Reopen calculator and it should be 0. As long as you clear everything before you close every time it will open with 0.

I'm having the same problem - started with ios18 for me too.

I was simply using the calculator app to do some math and now when I reopen the app, it pre-populates with my previous entry-string of numbers and symbols. This happens after killing the app and then re-opening it. If I leave the app running in the background, it works as expected and does not populate with my previous entry-string. It's probably a bug that'll get fixed in the next update.

Also, I'm not sure what Lawrence Finch is talking about but that has nothing to do with the problem. But if I ever forget how to put my phone in my pocket, I'll know who to ask.

Sorry I updated to iOS 18.0 on iPhone. To name a few issues I have with the update.

I totally dislike the changes in Settings. Difficult and time consuming to find what I am looking for.

Don't understand why Apple change features in Settings?

The calculator now looks like a 2nd grader doing a math problem. EX: 2+10+43+6+11+8+10+14+3+...

Is Apple trying to attract a much younger generation? I just don't get it. :)

Thanks for listening!

*Update: just checked and seeing there is an update to IOS 18. No mention of the calculator but am updating. Will report back if and when I notice anything new.

Sad, and irritated, to report problem is back and worse than before. No amount of clearing the history and closing and opening is clearing. And weirdly the calculation it is displaying is from days ago, does not exist in my history and I have performed several other calculations AFTER this one. Unistalled/reinstalled again which has corrected it for now but is it only going to last a week again? This is not a viable or acceptable fix. Come on Apple somebody did a poor job testing this before rolling it out. Please fix this and while you are at it make the history thing optional because not all of us need or want that functionality. Right now it is just an additional annoyance! Patiently waiting for a fix!

If you routinely carry your phone in your pocket (not a good idea for a ~$1,000 piece of delicate electronics unless it is in a protective case) you need to do 2 things:

(1)Go to Settings/FaceID & Passcode and turn off Raise to Wake.

(2)Put the phone in your pocket with the BACK against your body so skin contact doesn’t activate it. This may seem counterintuitive, but it is more important to protect the back than the front; a screen can be easily and quickly replaced; a back is more complicated.
