iTunes 12.13.3.2 Crashing During iPhone 14 Restore on Windows 11 Pro

I’m experiencing a frustrating issue with iTunes version 12.13.3.2 on my Windows 11 Pro machine. Every time I try to restore my iPhone 14 (currently on iOS 17.x), iTunes crashes midway through the process. The application becomes unresponsive, and the restore fails. My iPhone also remains with logo and progress bar in midway. Here are a few key details:

iTunes Version: 12.13.3.2
OS: Windows 11 Pro (64-bit)
iPhone Model: iPhone 14
iOS Version: iOS 17.x

I’ve already tried the following troubleshooting steps:

Reinstalled iTunes.
Ensured that both iTunes and iOS are up to date.
Restarted my PC and iPhone in recovery mode.
Tried using different USB cables and ports.

Unfortunately, none of these have worked. Has anyone else encountered this issue, or is there a known fix? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Wow. A big time "THANK YOU" to @janfromfarum for posting a solution to iTunes crashing while updating iPhone.

Some details of my experience, in case it helps someone:

iTunes crashed for me in Windows 11 in the "updating firmware" step of updating an SE3 to iOS 18.2. And crashed with every subsequent attempt to Restore the phone, which left the phone unusable.

Installing the .exe version of iTunes, AND running as admin, worked to restore to factory settings.

However after the factory restore, iTunes would not restore the phone to the "backup to this computer" I had done prior to attempting the iOS update - the [Restore Backup...] button was greyed out.

I was able to restore the backup by installing the Apple Devices app, and restoring it from there.

These exact steps worked for me. I was able to get my phone functioning again by using only the update option, eliminating the need for a full restore.

WOW what a long day. You saved it with this fix listed. Running the install of iTunes in Administrator Mode was the fix. Pryor it didn't like one of the files saying it was older than the installed.
