Cannot airplay connect my iPhone to our HomePod because it paired to a different device on restart It's taken me weeks to find out why we are having so much trouble connecting to our HomePod. We have three devices we use to play music on it via AirPlay: two iPhones and an iPad. A typical scenario: play something on my iPhone, then try to transfer it to the HomePod via Airplay: after a long time it times out. This with the phone two inches away from the HomePod, or even sitting on top of it. unplug HomePod, then plug it in again. **Sometimes** this works, but lately it mostly fails. Finally, I thought "Maybe it paired to some other device". So next failure, after power cycling it, I gathered all the devices, started playing music, then when I tapped the AirPlay button (not the HomePod, the icon button that opens a sheet with all the possible devices, I found that the HomePod was connected to a device that had been 50 feet away. So obviously the source of my trouble is that once paired, even if the HomePod isn't doing anything, it will refuse to play music from another device. So what is the solution? Can I make it forget about all but one device, then that device becomes the designated HomePod controller? This is all just so frustrating - that Apple won't even tell us "You can't play on this device, its paired to xyzzy device".

iPhone to Homepod Airplay/Handoff not working Hi. Got a brand new HomePod 2gen yesterday. Used an iPhone 13 Pro to set it up. I cannot get my iPhone to transfer any media to the Homepod. Handoff seems to be initiating normally (Phone starts vibrating, and asks me if I want to transfer media to Homepod as I move closer to the Homepod). Transfer takes forever, and always ends up with an Airplay error message (Cannot connect to Homepod). I have also tried choosing Homepod as a an Airplay speaker. Homepod shows up in the list along with my other Airplay enabled devices (e.g Apple TV 4k), but it cannot connect. I have no issue connecting the same iPhone to my Apple TV. My iPad 6th gen (iPadOS 16.3.1) has no issue using Homepod as Airplay speaker. It connects every time. HomePod is updated to 16.3.2. iPhone is running iOS 16.3.1. I have two AppleIDs. One for media, and one for iCloud. Handoff and transfer to Homepod is turned ON in iPhone settings. All devices are on the same Wifi. I have tried soft rebooting iPhone. Logging in and out of both my media and iCloud accounts on my iPhone. Power cycling HomePod. Restarted my wifi router, and even updated my router firmware. Nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?

Hello Ada0865,

There are a few possible explanations for why this might not be working. Here are some things you can check:

Are your phone and HomePod on the same WiFi network?
Are your HomePod settings enabling people on the same network to use the HomePod?
Is your HomePod showing up in the Home app on your phone?
- If so, is it showing up in apps like Music as an option to connect to for sound?
- If it is in Music, for example, is it just not working, or is it giving you an error message?

All of my devices is using the same WiFi. And my MacBook and old iPhone can work with it. Just my phone can’t.

My HomePod is showing in the Home app. In my phone it didn’t show in Music but other devices is showing.
