iPhone to Homepod Airplay/Handoff not working

Hi.

Got a brand new HomePod 2gen yesterday.

Used an iPhone 13 Pro to set it up.

I cannot get my iPhone to transfer any media to the Homepod.

Handoff seems to be initiating normally (Phone starts vibrating, and asks me if I want to transfer media to Homepod as I move closer to the Homepod). Transfer takes forever, and always ends up with an Airplay error message (Cannot connect to Homepod).

I have also tried choosing Homepod as a an Airplay speaker. Homepod shows up in the list along with my other Airplay enabled devices (e.g Apple TV 4k), but it cannot connect.

I have no issue connecting the same iPhone to my Apple TV.

My iPad 6th gen (iPadOS 16.3.1) has no issue using Homepod as Airplay speaker. It connects every time.

HomePod is updated to 16.3.2.

iPhone is running iOS 16.3.1.

I have two AppleIDs. One for media, and one for iCloud.

Handoff and transfer to Homepod is turned ON in iPhone settings.

All devices are on the same Wifi.

I have tried soft rebooting iPhone. Logging in and out of both my media and iCloud accounts on my iPhone.

Power cycling HomePod. Restarted my wifi router, and even updated my router firmware.

Nothing seems to work.

Any suggestions?

Hi.

Thank you for replying.

AppleID1 is signed in for iCloud.

AppleID2 is signed in for Media purchases (App Store, Apple Music, AppleTV+ etc).

From the Home app.

If I choose my home -> more -> home settings - then click my own name in the People list (Resident (owner)), both AppleIDs are listed under my name.

iCloud: AppleID1

Media: AppleID2

iCloud Keychain is turned on for my iCloud account. (I tried turning this off and then on again now, but it did not make any difference). I can not see any way for me to turn this on or off for my media account.

As mentioned in the first post, my 6th gen iPad has no issue selecting Homepod as Airplay speaker. It works every time.

I can not see any difference in my iPad iCloud configuration compared to my iPhone one.

The only difference between the two that I can see, is in the Home app.

On my iPad, Home repeatedly asks me to log in to Apple Music, but it only lets me select my iCloud account (I cannot change it to the media account). I can ignore this prompt, and everything still works. (I am logged in to Apple Music with my media account)

This is the same issue as reported by someone else here Home App repeatedly asks me to Sign In to… - Apple Community

Not sure if that's relevant to my main problem at all, just thought I'd mention it.

My girlfriend's iPhone can also not connect to Homepod using Airplay.

Only my iPad.

We have several other Airplay enabled speakers, and an Apple TV 4K.

We have no issues using Airplay with any of them.

Hi glenngukild,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're having an issue with setting up your new HomePod. We'd like to help.

Let's start off with the two Apple IDs you're using. Are they both signed into the Apple ID for iCloud or for your media purchases? We just want to make sure we're on the same page as far as initial set up goes. If you're using two different Apple IDs, you may need to make sure the iCloud ID is invited to the HomeKit setup that the HomePod is a part of. Steps to complete that can be found here: Share control of your home - Apple Support

Is iCloud Keychain on for your Apple IDs? This is needed for this set up:

How to turn on iCloud Keychain
Before you turn on iCloud Keychain, update your device to the latest iOS or iPadOS, or the latest version of macOS, and turn on two-factor authentication for your Apple ID.

When you update your device, the setup assistant asks you to set up iCloud Keychain. If you want to set up iCloud Keychain at another time, follow these steps.

Turn on iCloud Keychain on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
1. Tap Settings, tap [your name], then choose iCloud.
2. Tap Passwords and Keychain.*
3. Turn on iCloud Keychain. You might be asked for your passcode or Apple ID password.
On iPhone, turn on iCloud Keychain in Settings
Find your saved passwords and passkeys on your iPhone or iPad

The steps above can be found here: Set up iCloud Keychain - Apple Support

Let us know if that helps.

Cheers!
