Mail not working on iPhone after iOS 18 Update

Hi guys,

After updating my iPhone from iOS 17.7 to 18, I encountered an error with my work email. It's showing "IMAP server is not responding."Our mail server uses TLS version 1.1. Does iOS 18 support this version? Can you confirm?

I’d get the server to TLSv1.2 and with forward security configured minimally, and test again.

IMAP (read, receive) and ESMTP (send) are separate network services, so check both.

There are various ways to check the TLS and cipher offers by a server, and curl and testssl among those,:

Also check the IMAP and ESMTP server logs for any failure-relevant details that might be included there.

I just updated to iOS 18.1.1 last night (was forced to, as iOS 17 kept interrupting me and insisting I update several days in a row. I finally did so out of frustration). Now my Mail App has stopped working (used only to access my Hotmail). Will not allow access using 2FA, or by entering my password. I tried following the various steps suggested, even to deleting my account and re-adding, changing network, Airplane Mode, etc. Now I have a dead app with none of my historical emails. I can access my Hotmail on my iPhone using the Outlook App, but not with the Mail App (which is needed as that is the default security route for 2FA for other apps that auto-open it).

I cannot receive emails via my Mail App, nor can I send them. It says my password is incorrect, though the password works just fine on my PC, and on my Outlook App on the same iPhone.

I see this issue has been around since at least September based on prior posts. Have they not been able to find the bug and squash it in three months, with several bug updates in the interim? Especially since the Mail App is an Apple product, you would think they can get their iOS and App to play nice.

I can’t add any more email address to my iPhone it’s gone, there is icon to email accounts. WTF is wrong with Apple? This is unexpected and it’s insane as I have 3 addresses and now I can’t add them and have you use my laptop to access my other accounts. Fix this Apple..asap. How could this get by everyone on the last update? Where is the mail icon under general in setting????!

This thread now has *27* pages of responses from people who, like me, are experiencing the same issues. And yet Apple *still* hasn’t acknowledged this is a major issue with their Mail App for most people and *still* hasn’t fixed it with the latest IOS update. Apple seems fixated on “Apple Intelligence” but it apparently doesn’t have the intelligence to recognize feedback from its customers.

I'm wondering if this has to do with the age/version of the device. I have an iPhone XS and my wife has an 11Pro and we have no problem with the Apple Mail app since iOS 18.1. Maybe it is just the newer devices that are having this issue? I'm also not having a problem with my 3 or 4 year old iPad Air.

Note: I just updated to 18.2 and Apple has added some 'features' to the Mail app, none of which I want or need, but others may like them. I turned them all off.

Yes, we know the mail is not working for thousand of people. I have no answer for that.

Your "view every account" issue is unrelated to this discussion, however I thought I'd post this as I think this will answer what I think the problem is you (and probably others) are having with the new iOS mail app (default) interface.
