Mail not working on iPhone after iOS 18 Update

Hi guys,

After updating my iPhone from iOS 17.7 to 18, I encountered an error with my work email. It's showing "IMAP server is not responding."Our mail server uses TLS version 1.1. Does iOS 18 support this version? Can you confirm?

I’d get the server to TLSv1.2 and with forward security configured minimally, and test again.

IMAP (read, receive) and ESMTP (send) are separate network services, so check both.

There are various ways to check the TLS and cipher offers by a server, and curl and testssl among those,:

Also check the IMAP and ESMTP server logs for any failure-relevant details that might be included there.

After 18.1.1 upgrade I was asked for exchange password.

Did on iPad seemed ok then

iPhone and tested right away

but all email sends failed.

Message:- cannot send mail

An error occurred while delivering this message.

It occurred right after a message Exchange password is incorrect. With the basic box for the password. Yeah, did it - is the correct password.

Seems that is the clue, yes?

It's been 2,5 months now and this problem still isn't fixed by Apple. I am experiencing the same problem as everyone else since the update to iOS 18 and the updated iOS 18.1.1 did not fix this problem either. Both my iPhones and iPad have this problem. My MacBook pro doesn't weirdly enough (old one, MacOS 13.7.1). And I can send mail from the mail program just like others but I can not receive it. Very annoying.

My girlfriend is not updating her iPhone to iOS 18 because of this problem and I wish I hadn't either... I normally never work on my old MacBook pro but since this big mistake of Apple in iOS18 I am forced to read and reply my e-mail on my old computer again. Bah.

Does anyone have a tip for a better mail-program than Mail that works on iPhone, iPad and on a MacBook?

Well, not a good answer, but I have tried both Outlook and Spark, and dislike both of them, even after disabling their so-called AI features that merely get in my way. Neither, in my view, holds a candle to a working Mail.

you are absolutely right. I also installed the same two apps and I also dislike them: you need them both in order to do less things than with Apple’s Mail. I also disabled all AI features from Spark for the same reason and I wonder who finds them so useful! This is our problem: there is not an equally well designed app.

But I think we all have another one: The problem seems still not to be known outside this forum (which Apple people do not read) and outside other smaller fora (which might put some pressure on Apple).

My ticket with Apple is still open since 3.10.2024. I will try to contact them next week

Same Problem on different iPhones using current iOS 18.1.1

  • deleted Mail profile in mail account settings and reconfigured it. Synchronized ones then error 9808
  • deleted network settings and reconfigured mail account. Synchronized ones then error 9808
  • added root cert by installing profile. No changes
  • Secured SAN compare to used hostname of imap. Still no synchronization

Any ideas how we can fix it by our self? Or do we still have to wait for new iOS update?

This is why I dread and hate updates! All you do is break things that were working just fine. I’ve now spent hours, to no avail, to get my Gmail to populate in the mail app, I’ve tried all the suggestions including uninstall reinstall check pop and IMAP server settings to get my mail and it won’t work. This is infuriating! Apple for how ridiculously expensive your products are this basic function shouldn’t be such an issue! Get it together! I’m beyond furious!
