My phone is now working!

So after looking at the suggestions for a fix, I discovered that a soft reset worked perfectly for me. Suddenly Siri is working and there's no dictation lag. I'm no longer grumpy with my phone. I strongly recommend this for everyone suffering lag on their 16 Pro Max (or possibly other models,) as this was a lifesaver for me.

Here's the simple process:

  1. Press and quickly release the Volume up button
  2. Press and quickly release the Volume down button
  3. Immediately press and hold the Side button until the screen goes blank…keep holding until you see the Apple logo (will take quite a few seconds.)

Done! This is all it took to get my phone working great. I hope it works for you, too.

The fix for me was switching my Siri language from English (United States) to English (Canada). I was then prompted again to complete the 5 phrases for Siri and it worked normally after that but only with the Canada language. Siri still does not respond while using the United States option. The prefer spoken responses and other recommendations did not fix the issue.

To ensure Siri works properly on your iPhone, go to Settings → Siri (or Apple Intelligence & Siri if available), then tap Talk to Siri and select your preferred option: “Hey Siri,” “Siri,” or “Hey Siri.” Make sure Allow Siri When Locked is enabled, and enter your passcode if prompted. Under Siri Responses, choose Prefer Spoken Responses so Siri can respond out loud even when your phone is locked. You can also explore Siri settings to customize preferences or try selecting a new Siri voice, which will download fresh data and may help resolve issues. Additionally, check your internet connection, as Siri needs it to function. If you want Siri to respond even when your iPhone is face down, go to Settings → Accessibility → Siri and turn on Always Listen for Hey Siri.

Here’s a suggestion as it always works for me so far. First thing I direct an update is manually restart the phone myself after a couple minutes of it finishing the update and doing its own restart however, i’m not sure that it does anything but it’s a habit mainly what I suggest out is completely disabling Siri and then re-enabling it of course you’ll have to redo your voice detection or whatever it’s called which takes 20 seconds and then it’s good to go. I’ve noticed as well on Low Power Mode. It’s not as responsive, Obviously, you gonna have a decent Internet connection or decent cellular connection. Also make sure that your phone is not currently connected Bluetooth to a device say a pair of headphones that you don’t even have on. Also for the record. I’ve literally dropped this Iphone 13 various Heights up to 4+ feet high on concrete gravel you name it it’s been done screen first with no screen protector because it broke on the third drop, but with an OtterBox case, well over 100 still nothing protects the screen except the screen itself, and not a single crack, obviously there’s some scratches, but it doesn’t affect anything so far. 2.5 years old Sorry had to share that! :)

Yes! Thank you Mariewk! Your solution fixed the problem of siri not reading out the actual messsage.

Siri will not read out messages if the new setting "Lock messages with with Face Id" is set to on in messages.

To turn this off...

Go to the home screen and locate the messages app. Touch and hold the Messages app icon until the quick actions menu opens. Tap Don't Require Face ID (or Touch ID or Passcode).

It’s iOS 18.2.1 and the issue still isn’t fixed.

Seriously, I feel you. I’ve been experienced this glitch since iOS 18. I’m a visually impaired person and it’s shameful how broken is Siri in iOS 18, Really?

preferred spoken responces fixes it, but automatic voice responses mutes Siri completely.

No matter the device, happens on iPhone 11, iPhone 13 as well as on my iPad Pro 11in 4th gen
