Why is iPhone running iOS 18 not mirroring with iMac?

I cannot get my iPhone to mirror with my early 2019 iMac (updated to Sequoia 15). It asks for the iPhone unlock password but then no handshaking occurs. Does mirroring only work with a T2 security chip-enabled iMac?

this seems to be the issue (my 2019 iMac retina does not support it), but why do they include the app - and it's even defaulted to appear in the dock - if your particular Mac doesn't support it? Horribly confusing for users - the opposite of "it just works!" as you have to google to find out your machine doesn't even support it

I've just spent the last hour trying to get it to work... then googling in the hope of finding a solution. I'm with you: if the app doesn't work with my iMac 2019, why do they include it when updating to Sequoia? Also, wouldn't a simple check in the program to establish compatibility save users and probably Apple a whole lot of wasted time?

The only system requirements I can find is that my iMac supports handoff. So where is the restriction actually listed?

None of the YouTube guides tell you about needing the T2 chip, they all claim to fix the issue! which is appauling to say such an important feature is not available to us with 2019 Macs

Appalling that your 5 year old Mac isn't compatible with a new feature which requires a chip not built into your Mac? Nothing appalling about that at all. If this is an important feature you want, then buy a newer Mac which will support it. Every year, Apple introduces new features and they alway say not all features are compatible with all devices. This is one which is just not compatible with a computer from 5 years ago. You're also not going to get Apple Intelligence when it is rolled out in a few weeks. That too requires a Mac with a Silicone Chip, which your Mac doesn't have. Maybe it's time to update to a newer Mac?
