Well, Apple doesn't provide "worse versions" of anything. Mac Jim ID gave you a really excellent response and we'll just leave it there. The fact won't change that iPhone 12 is NOT capable of running Apple Intelligence and if Apple Intelligence is something you want, Apple would be happy to take your phone in trade towards an iPhone which can run Apple Intelligence.

Sure, look at the list of supported devices MrHoffman provided, then trade in your iPhone 12 for an iPhone which is capable of running Apple Intelligence.

No Apple Intelligence on the iPhone 12 Pro. You need an iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, or iPhone 16-series phone that meets the other requirements.

You already have AI on your device to perform many tasks, that is exactly what Machine Learning is. Some of these features such as Object Detection are available on your device and not on earlier devices such as the iPhone X for the same reason you see now.
