Related Names in iOS Contacts don't link to the corresponding contacts

The Related Name section of a contact card allows for either entering a string using the keyboard, or picking an existing contact. Either way, upon saving, the entry looks like a link, but does not link to the other contact--expected if the name was typed, but confusing if it was picked from the list of existing contacts.

In MacOS, clicking on the actual label of a related name shows a menu with Show "<name>" & Search with Spotlight for those that were picked from list, and only Search with Spotlight for those typed in.

Why can't that same behavior be implements in iOS? Forget the search--just open directly that other contact (like tapping a date, e.g., birthday, opens the Calendar on that day). And what's the point of showing me what looks like a link (blue & underscored) if it doesn't link anywhere (upon tap it does the nice shading animation like all the other links, but nothing else).

Posting here in case I'm doing something wrong or my system is stuck & needs some obscure reset. If others can confirm they see the same behavior, I will send Apple a feature request.

This is an Apple thing. It’s 100% clear that if you select someone from your contacts list, that it should be linking them. Every other field (birthday, address, etc) opens up something except for that one. It needs to be updated.
