Background App Refresh and Notifications Not Working on iPhone

Hi there,

I've encountered an issue where my iPhone is no longer performing a background app refresh for ANY applications, hence I'm not receiving notifications or messages. For example, I only recieve Whatsapp messages once i open the app. I have followed all Apple community recomendations and nothing has worked. I even called Apple and spoke to an assistant and we did not manage to fix the issue.

Just to clarify, These are the things that I have already tried:

  • I have checked and confirmed that Background App Refresh is enabled in the settings for all relevant apps, and notifications are also enabled.
  • I have also ensured that Do Not Disturb and Low Power Mode are turned off
  • Updated to the latest iOS version
  • I've force restarted my device multiple times
  • I do not have focus mode enabled
  • I reset all settings, location settings, privacy settings, etc.
  • I turned off Attention-Aware features (as recomended by Apple Assistant)

Unfortunately, none of these steps have resolved the issue. The only way around this is to reinstall the application, in that case the app background refresh starts working (and notifications). I don't want to reinstall 60+ apps and lose my data, so i will not be going down that route.

I would appreciate any assistance or suggestions on how to fix this problem.

Thank you!
