wi fi very slow on macbook pro 2019, 16 inch

Wi fi very slow on macbook pro 2019, 6 inch.. This started a couple of days ago. I thought maybe it was the router, so replaced the airport router (it was still working so didn't retire it earlier ) with a new modem and router via spectrum. I used to average around 350 mbps, now it's down to 20! At the same time my phone and ipad have 350.

Anyone know a fix for this or what is causing it ?

Troubleshooting Lagging Mac Wi-Fi:

A few thoughts to try...

A. Clear the Temporary Internet Files:

B. Boot in Safe Mode:

In Safe ModeLogin Items do not run at login, certain preferences are set aside, and damaged system files are then reset. So, once booted in to Safe Mode, wait 30 seconds, and then boot up normally, attempting another update install. For instructions, go here: How to Use safe Mode on your Mac - Apple Support

C. Try a New Admin User:

What happens when you create a new administrator user, and log into it? Do you still get this error? If not, then it is likely an error with the current user. If so, then it is likely an error with your Mac.

D. Reset the SMC and your NVRAM:

(Applies to Intel-Based Macs Only) Sometimes when changes are made to the system(i.e. updates), system configurations (i.e. for WiFi) become manipulated, technically. So, reset the SMC and NVRAM. It might take three tries.

Which macOS version?

Now as for the Wi-Fi network…

Incorrectly-configured Wi-Fi can cause connectivity issues, as can buggy or failing routers. Check for and apply available router firmware updates, too. If there’s more than one Wi-Fi router present (and configured as a router, not as an access point), that can play havoc with connectivity when subnets are not configured.

How many IP network routers are present? Just one?

Or is there another Wi-Fi router, or maybe an ISP IP router/firewall/gateway box involved, or a still-powered AirPort?

Does the MacBook Pro Wi-Fi network run faster when connected to other Wi-Fi networks elsewhere?

Wi-Fi interference can also be a potential issue. The built-in Wi-Fi troubleshooting tools are adequate and have the benefit of being trivial, while tools such as WiFi Explorer app can make troubleshooting shooting easier.

To view the basic Wi-Fi environment characteristics, Option-Click on the Wi-Fi logo 🛜 in the menu bar, and capture some Wi-Fi network data. Post the items shown in the following image including the Security mode and from Channel to NSS inclusive (Security, Channel, Country, RSSI, Noise, Tx Rate, PHY mode, MCS, NSS, green highlight) (without posting the Wi-Fi address, any local HotSpots that might be present, the network name, or the BSSID, all of which are expurgated from the image shown below, red highlight), and we can take a look at the basic network environment.

You need not obfuscate anything unless you are a high profile person like MrHoffman, who might be the victim of being pranked by people who know him.

This is (part of) why I suggest obfuscation of or omitting of certain Wi-Fi data in postings around here:

Thanks for the reply. Fast forward to now. In the end I decided to put my airport in the mac museum and called my internet provider for an upgraded modem and router. So far I'm very disappointed. The airport provided faster and better quality wi-fi. Spectrum's routers are allegedly dual-band but automatic. Very disappointed. The 5gh is fine. It's the 2.5 that is terrible. It's still not clear that the initial problem that was the subject of the post was a spectrum issue they didn't "admit" or an issue with my equipment.
