Set default device for find my location on Kid's Apple Watch

Is there a way in Watch OS to change the default device used for location sharing? I have a child with an iPad as part of our family sharing, and they also have an Apple Watch SE set up through Family Setup. I can’t find a way to link the child’s iPad with the Apple Watch.

I would prefer the watch to be the default device for location sharing instead of the iPad. Although I can see the watch under the devices section in Find My, I want it to appear in the People section of the Find My app. Any suggestions?
