It's NOT on your phone. It hasn't been released publicly. And when it is, you have to opt in to Apple Intelligence, IF you even own an iPhone which is eligible to get Apple Intelligence (iPhone 15 Pro/15 Pro Max and all iPhone 16 models). So don't opt in to it. There, problem solved.

I feel the same way, I’m done with my writing constantly getting underlined. It’s distracting and unnecessary, I can find no setting to turn it off, I write in 3 different languages and I get frustrated trough the core.

If the existing Apple spelling and grammer tools don’t work the way you want and can’t be reonfigured, send your feedback to Apple: Product Feedback - Apple

As another potential option here, writing-focused alternatives such as Scrivener might work for your particular needs.

First of all, this feature has NOT been released. And there is no reason to need to turn off something you don't intend to use. In order to use it, you'd have to identify what you'd want to remove and confirm you want it removed. Your post is like saying I want to turn off the ability to change which camera you use as you will only use one camera. That doesn't make sense and as is the case with all photo features, you choose which you use when you want to use them. And you don't use features available to you, if you don't want to use them.

Bottom line, don't edit photos or remove objects in them if you don't want to remove objects.

Lifting the subject from a photo is a feature of iOS 16, and is related to Visual Lookup, and available on certain devices, and requires touching and holding on the subject to trigger it.

Here is how to: Lift a subject from the photo or video background on iPhone - Apple Support

I am aware of no means to disable or avoid this lifting, or the related Visual Lookup, short of not pressing and holding on the subject.

AI has been in use for a while on iPhone.

Underlying and utilitarian AI for facial recognition, sound and image enhancement, etc. are fine. When AI injects moral or political bias or has access to personal information to which some programmer can gain backdoor access despite Apple policy, I draw the line. Chat GPT was found notably biased when it first rolled out. I just now posed some test questions to it and it appears it has been made more balanced than when it first appeared. None the less, I am convinced that the programmer of AI can produce either biased or invasive results and needs evaluation, periodically.

You could substitute "Newspapers," "teachers," "encyclopedias," "scientists," or almost any information source (except "politicians") for AI in that sentence. I think it's unrealistic to expect anything to be completely unbiased. What's important is being aware of what the bias is. And check the facts on all of the above.

AI is unnecessary for that, between politics, psyops, propaganda, stan-baiting, thinkfluencers, astroturfing, push-polling, trolling, copyright infringement, ubiquitous advertising, and increasingly-invasive tracking and targeted advertising, welcome to humanity with planetary-scale communications.

AI certainly helps to automate and to reduce the costs of running troll farms and content farms, sure.

Apple Intelligence is NOT intrusive. Unlike other LLM AI’s, Apple’s actually runs on your phone. But you can still turn it off if you don’t want to use it.

You might find this enlightening:

While others rush AI to market, Apple is taking its time. WSJ’s Joanna Stern talks with the company’s head of software Craig Federighi about the future of Siri, privacy, funny notification summaries and Apple’s slower approach.

We are just other Apple users here so cannot turn a thread off, or mark is resolved. But if you no longer want to see any more replies in your email, scroll up to the bottom of the original post. You will see a little bell icon there. Tap it to turn off your "subscription" to this thread. It will change to just an outline of a bell. You don't have to see anything you don't want to see.

Yeah. I mean, I’m okay with AI capabilities, even as an artist. It’s angering, but inethicality in the art industry persists even without the introduction of AI, and like all else, it’s a tool. A tool I don’t want to use, with its benefits and downsides, but a tool. It should exist in a neutral context, but like everything else, it’s used in the way it is because of circumstance around us.

This is a wee tangent, but most people here are angry purely about Gen. AI, and it doesn’t look like they know that that’s the specific thing they’re criticizing, and I empathize and wholly understand the trepidation and resistance, so I don’t get why people in this thread are clarifying that “actually, AI is such a general term that it’s useless to just say AI-features,”: true, but its usage now is significantly different from its use in reference to the usual stuff we’ve seen it used for prior to 2023-2024.

But I think a lot of the fuss about them has to do with other things that manifest as people being afraid of AI taking their roles, but I also recognize the worry over stuff like privacy: I just really, really wish (and this is pretty par for the course with regards to Apple’s resistance to user customization,) that it was something I could actually turn off: as of now, it looks like it’s now constantly in the right-click menu, pestering and begging me like a child. Irritates me, but I feel sort of resigned. This is the way AI’s gonna be used, and it’s not something endemic to Apple. But the way it slots in now is pretty aggravating, constantly being shoved down your throat.

To disable Apple Intelligence on your iPhone, you can turn off features related to Siri and other predictive services that rely on machine learning. First, go to Settings > Siri & Search and disable options like Listen for "Hey Siri,"Press Side Button for Siri, and Suggestions in Search. Additionally, you can limit certain app tracking and personal data usage by navigating to Settings > Privacy & Security and managing app permissions or adjusting settings for Location Services and Analytics & Improvements.

I don’t understand why people post totally useless and wrong answers to the question asked (like this one). It actually isn’t correct for any purpose. It shows the limitations of blindly accepting what ChatGPT and other LLM AI systems generate.
