With respect to this: Apple Intelligence Preview - Apple

I suspect that the features will be there – in phones and versions of iOS that support them – but that you will not be forced to use them.

There will be many people who do use them, so I don't think that by boycotting them yourself, you'll be able to avoid the impact that these features (and others like them) will have on society.

thank you for my privacy

What do you want off your phone? Since Apple Intelligence hasn't even been released yet, it must be one of the other Artificial Intelligence features commonly known as Machine Learning:

  • Face ID
  • Touch ID
  • Siri Suggestions
  • Detecting Faces in Photos
  • Detecting Objects in Photos (animals, plants, etc)
  • Map suggestions
  • Auto Correct when typing
  • Copying Objects from Photos
  • Voice Recognition

We are just other Apple users here so cannot turn a thread off, or mark is resolved. But if you no longer want to see any more replies in your email, scroll up to the bottom of the original post. You will see a little bell icon there. Tap it to turn off your "subscription" to this thread. It will change to just an outline of a bell. You don't have to see anything you don't want to see.

If you are talking about Artificial Intelligence, then your phone is currently using it even if you do not use Siri. That is how it does Face and object detection on your photos. Apple has previously referred to this as Machine Learning, but that is what Artificial Intelligence is. It is also used to show you Photo memories and many others features that you currently have on your phone.

100% I do NOT want AI built into my iPhone. I will go iphoneless if we do not have options.

Then you will going completely mobile phoneless because ALL smartphone manufacturers are loading their devices full of it, not only Apple, and there’s nothing you can do about except stop using a mobile phone altogether. And besides that you have been using AI on your iPhone as along as you have using it, you juts didn’t realized it.

I dont want AI and have never used siri on any of my devices

You have no choice in the matter as ALL mobile phones and computers are loaded with it already. If you really don’t want AI then sell your devices and get off the internet, find a cabin in the wilderness and live happily thereafter. Simple fact of living in the 21st century.

Youre delusional about AI. You say “it’s not as bad as you think”. Garbage. You think you’re being lied to now…about everything? AI will escalate that to no end. That’s my opinion and apparently there are MANY people that agree with me. But the real issue is every lousy phone manufacturer will not allow users to move on without it. Free choice? I think not! Either make a phone without it or the intelligent people will all switch to flip phones. Everyone else can give up their freedoms and protections for convenience. Good luck.

You need to tell us what specific feature you are talking about instead of using generalities. Photos uses AI to perform face and object detection, as well as photo memories suggestions. Is this what you consider being the demise of the world.

Are you specifically talking about generative AI, like what is provided by ChatGPT? For Apple's implementation, you have to specifically allow each such request you ask for using that service. It is not taking over control of your iPhone.

Or are you not speaking specifically about any of the features provided by Apple in iOS18, and speaking more generally such as robots being built to repair themselves and self replicate to take over the world. That topic may be more relevant on a Social Media site and not a Support Site specifically for Apple products and services.

Yea. Like this “current” technology really has our best interests in mind.

Well , like I said to another similar poster, get off the grid completely, live without technology. There are groups of people who do just that and claim they have simple lives now. Some of them even have cable TV shows about their simple lives. Oops, technology.

Your opinion. AI will do nothing for your security or freedoms or opinions. It will only make things more “convenient”. People have been giving up their freedoms, rights, and security for years now, all for a little convenience. Not me. AI will be a disastrous option for us, but not for those who want to dictate all areas of our lives. You go ahead.

"AI" is a tool. Like any tool, it can be used to make life better, or it can be used to make us miserable. Sometimes, both at the same time. Hammers are very useful, but they can also be weapons. That doesn't mean we make hammers illegal. It means we have laws against harming people.

And people have said pretty much the same thing about every technological advance.

I don’t want AI on my phone. I do not trust it with my personal information

As been said many times here, if you are talking about third party services such as ChatGPT, you have to allow any request, it is not doing it automatically, so you have nothing to worry about. As for other AI features such as Machine Learning to detect faces and objects in photos, and for Siri Suggestions and Predictive Text, you have already been using those features for many years and your personal information stays on your device.
