It's NOT on your phone. It hasn't been released publicly. And when it is, you have to opt in to Apple Intelligence, IF you even own an iPhone which is eligible to get Apple Intelligence (iPhone 15 Pro/15 Pro Max and all iPhone 16 models). So don't opt in to it. There, problem solved.

What do you want off your phone? Since Apple Intelligence hasn't even been released yet, it must be one of the other Artificial Intelligence features commonly known as Machine Learning:

  • Face ID
  • Touch ID
  • Siri Suggestions
  • Detecting Faces in Photos
  • Detecting Objects in Photos (animals, plants, etc)
  • Map suggestions
  • Auto Correct when typing
  • Copying Objects from Photos
  • Voice Recognition

To disable Apple Intelligence on your iPhone, you can turn off features related to Siri and other predictive services that rely on machine learning. First, go to Settings > Siri & Search and disable options like Listen for "Hey Siri,"Press Side Button for Siri, and Suggestions in Search. Additionally, you can limit certain app tracking and personal data usage by navigating to Settings > Privacy & Security and managing app permissions or adjusting settings for Location Services and Analytics & Improvements.

To turn off Apple Intelligence, you go to Settings>Apple Intelligence & Siri>Apple Intelligence and set it to off.

I wish there was a way to default all apps with AI (Apple Intelligence) OFF when I turn on AI on my iPhone. I only want a couple of apps to use AI (e.g., Pages), but I have to go through a gazillion apps one by one(!) to turn AI OFF. Ahhhhhh

Keep the “main” Apple Intelligence switch off, but the machine learning is separate and little (or none?) of that has switches.

As for your feedback, whether that’s a control to toggle all on or all off, or better doc, or whatever, send that to Apple here: Product Feedback - Apple

With respect to this: Apple Intelligence Preview - Apple

I suspect that the features will be there – in phones and versions of iOS that support them – but that you will not be forced to use them.

There will be many people who do use them, so I don't think that by boycotting them yourself, you'll be able to avoid the impact that these features (and others like them) will have on society.

If you are talking about Artificial Intelligence, then your phone is currently using it even if you do not use Siri. That is how it does Face and object detection on your photos. Apple has previously referred to this as Machine Learning, but that is what Artificial Intelligence is. It is also used to show you Photo memories and many others features that you currently have on your phone.

Apple must follow laws. Thus laws like CCPA as well as GDPR. Thus, Apple will have a way to allow users to disable it. They will give us a way to turn it off. There are laws in place to protect us. Don’t stress it. It will be a simple toggle button in the settings area. No big deal people that want it will get it and people that don’t won’t be bothered with it. Yep thank god for CCPA

I don’t want AI on my phone. I do not trust it with my personal information

As been said many times here, if you are talking about third party services such as ChatGPT, you have to allow any request, it is not doing it automatically, so you have nothing to worry about. As for other AI features such as Machine Learning to detect faces and objects in photos, and for Siri Suggestions and Predictive Text, you have already been using those features for many years and your personal information stays on your device.

Please review the posts here. It is likely all of your concerns have already been addressed.

Where is Apple response to this persistant and legitimate desire of their customers to be able to control AI use on their phone?

Information directly from Apple has been linked in this thread.

Re-posting from earlier in the thread, here are related details directly from Apple:

Maybe using an AI can help with a summarization of this thread? 🤪

But seriously, you can send Apple your feedback about this: Product Feedback - Apple

Yes consumers “Can” out per CCPA and GDPR laws. Companies are per law required to allow consumers to opt out. If they don’t the government can and will simply proxy out non approved protocols at a supernet level with backbone internet routers and fine them heavily. That said Apple will allow us to opt out. I am tired of the replies on this. Please mark resolved. Yes there is privacy laws. Just like we can turn off Siri and disable GPS it will be no different. Can we please close this post thank you. There is no point to debate law, that is for elected officials to do, and guess what they already give us “the consumers” privacy laws to project from abuse. It will have a simple toggle button. This post just keeps going. It’s all fun and games until it’s all blocked on a Ciena system for not following law.
