Unable to stream some newest titles from Apple TV+ from macbook Pro to my Samsung TV

Tonight I was gearing up to watch the new movie Argyle via Apple TV+ (I am a subscriber). I always connect an HDMI cable to my macbook and Samsung TV and it's always worked. Tonight I got a Apple TV box pop up 'This monitor does not support HDR playback'. So I tried another show (Ted Lasso) and it worked fine. For some reason it won't play Argle when I'm connected to the TV but it will play it on my macbook pro if I unplug the HDMI. Same situation with the new show Sugar. Will not plat to the tv, same message.

What's going on that I can play some shows but not the newest ones?

Depending on the age of your TV, you might be able to use the Apple TV app or Apple TV+ app directly on your Samsung TV. Their models from 2017 and later should have access to one of these apps.

I just verified on my MacBook Pro and Samsung TV that the direct HDMI connection still works here, including for Argylle and Sugar.

Did you perhaps download the movie, or are you streaming directly from Apple’s servers? A downloaded movie could be in a HDR format that is not compatible with the current setup, but streaming without download would adjust to the current setup and should work regardless.

All the Apple TV+ shows have mostly the same HDR options. The content is available in SDR, HDR10, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision. So any playback difference will have causes elsewhere (e.g. downloads mention earlier).

Your model Mac and HDMI adapter and HDMI cable may restrict what can be played in (4K and) HDR over HDMI (HDMI version 1.4/2.0/2.1), but that would apply to all content, not specific shows.

If the issue persists, then consider contacting the Apple Support staff.

Both shows were downloaded yes. But I then did try to play off Apples server not the downloaded version and it still came up with the same warning.

I guess I’ll delete the downloaded versions and try again as maybe it defaults only to the downloaded version?
