Apple TV 4K 2nd gen tvOS 17.4 tv screen goes black and playback pauses until I restart

It does not seem to matter what app is running. Randomly playing will stop, the tv screen goes black for several seconds and then comes back with whatever was playing paused. I have to hit play on the remote to get to going again.

This happens playing music with Apple Music App, with live tv using the Plex app, with Netflix and Sling. You name it.

It has also on more than one occasion turned off spontaneously.

The only recent change to my setup has been removing the Xfinity TV box that was also connected to my receiver but this issue started prior to that change.

Also, when this happens, the receiver does not react. It appears the HDMI signal isn't broken to the receiver.

I realized that sometimes while the Apple Music App is playing music, instead of pausing, the power shuts off on everything (the ATV, my receiver and TV). I have to turn it back on and hit play to resume the music.

And the frequency of pausing is very high, I've had it pause multiple times while watching a 30min show, sometimes just a few minutes apart. The frequency of turning the power off is much less than pausing - maybe once in a few hours vs minutes apart.

Could be your connection, HDMI cable or a failing Apple TV. I would start by either scheduling a repair appointment with Apple or better, replacing with new. Or if you prefer, replace all HDMI cables with new, 3 feet or less.
